You know in a hypothetical world, Robert E. Lee himself would probably have stripped Webb of his Southern citizenship for writing such pornography into ANY novel. Robert Lee didn't read novels to begin with, he thought that they were a waste of time. Regardless, I have a hard time believing that Robert Lee would be so judgemental or feel he had the right to strip another person of anything merely because of the man's failings.

merely because of the man's failings
Graphic depictions of pedophilia hardly qualify as only a 'failing'.
We'll put you down as one of the 'enlightened ones'.

(The Shah doesn't look so bad now, eh? But nooo, Jimmah said the Ayatollah was a 'godly' man.)

These remarks were made by Webb in 1990.
If he says the same things today, I would agree with your comment.
However, with the PC crap that has gone under the bridge since 1990, especially concerning the Confederacy, I doubt he would stand by his statements today.
Kinda like Algoremanpig on abortion from 1988 to 1992.

He's pretty bad.
He's a classic class-warfare type of guy who writes porn.
Of course, if he splits the Dems he'll do some good.
To: BnBlFlag
I read a few chapters of "Born fighting" - good book, no idea it was him.

"How could you forget the illegal Mexicans dealing in dope, murder and rape, 'committing the crimes that Americans just don't want to commit'?
Sorry pal, I wouldn't mourn the 'loss' of that one damn bit."
You gotta be kidding me? LOL? Like would I mourn the loss of the Jihadi mentality, too? Come on guy? You must have a bug up your nose or something.

Gasp!
RACIST, RACIST, RACIST
Oh. He's a Democrat now. If he was still a Republican there would be mighty ass kissing dues to be paid to the unending above the fold front page stories in Dead Tree Media.
He's a 'crat rat now. Nevermind/sarc

We'll put you down as one of the 'enlightened ones'. You can put me down as anything you want since you seem convinced that you have an uncanny ability to know what other people think.

While the historical part of these words is truly amazing and extremely moving, the third to last paragraph makes the MAIN point:
It is simply this: You hold our soldiers' lives in sacred trust. When a citizen has sworn to obey you, and follow your judgment, and walk onto a battlefield to defend the interests you define as worthy of his blood, do not abuse that awesome power through careless policy, unclear objectives, or inflexible leadership.
which is clearly meant to smear the decisions of the President and the Generals in Theater. IMO, someone who has such an ancestry should be able to appreciate the struggle of the IRAQIS and how we are there to HELP them to become FREE MEN AND WOMEN. But he, like so many other Democrats on Capitol Hill DO NOT recognize this war for what it is, DO NOT hold our reasons to be genuine, and consider this to be a war fought carelessly, EVEN THOUGH the percentage of losses is a stark 360 degrees opposite result of what has EVER taken place on ANY battlefield.
I am not one to drink the kool aid no matter how tempting it looks.

He is a political whore with scores to settle. He got burned in the 80's and is still bitter about it. You can see it in his eyes, in his manner, the way he carries himself. He severely criticized the Clintons, yet gladly accepted their help in his sordid campaign. He is a man without honor gladly accepting made up stories concerning Senator Allen. He will fit in nicely with the other political whores who make up the Democrat Party.

he would never talk like this today.
he is now committed to be socialist dog manure.
To: napscoordinator
When his financing came from the likes of John Kerry to the tune of $345K? Not so sure. Of course, he may figure on serving only 6 years--in which case he could do a bit of damage to them what brung him.

I think that you could be right, but he sure does talk a lot of BS. I do believe that he is going to give the dems some problems though. Even if he is lower than pond scum, he could still be an embarrassment to the democrats.

Yes, you have figured out the equation ~ just another politician. Did you see how easily this guy fooled so many Freepers?
It's disgusting.

Virginia didn't vote for him ~ the African Americans, Ku Klux Klaners and Limousine Liberals voted for him.
I seriously doubt that coalition will hold together much longer, particularly if one side or the other starts putting the others on spits and roasting them.

The Civil War memorial my great great grandfather and his friends, all Scots-Irish, and many also the descendants of Lord Sterling, erected on the courthouse square in Monroe County, Indiana, is dedicated to a whole lot of the same things, but also to victory, the eradication of human bondgage, and the destruction of slaveholders.
It's a wonder Webb had any ancestors to think about you know.
