Black conservatives come in many sizes, shapes, and party affiliations. The next two years are a perfect time for wise conservatives to build bridges with the leaders of the new black church. These church leaders are classical social conservatives. They believe that government programs alone cannot stop crime, poverty, or poor schools. The new black church is not waiting for a handout. They are promoting immediate change through wiser, biblically-informed choices and personal accountability.
They are using a new brand of black power to transform the nation. These men and women all believe that they can change America because of their faith in personal transformation (through religious conversion) and community transformation (through education and economic development). White conservatives, especially evangelical Christians, must learn new methods to advance their agenda; if they are going to protect America against a liberal deluge of poor policies and laws. The chief instrument in their tool kit will be bridge building and coalition formation.
Last week I was interviewed on a national religious program with three leaders of black super-mega churches. These men represent the new black church --- power, passion, and promise. Their churches were all in excess of 14,000 members with the largest church having over 24,000 members. Each one has implemented a successful local plan that has transformed their respective communities. These church models can be replicated to help transform America.

"Black conservatives come in many sizes, shapes"
Yes, all 5 of them. I am noticing an interesting trend. Every time bubba got in trouble he went to the black voter - right after the elections, people were saying the GOP needs to have Steele (also black) lead it.
I just don't get it.
Care to elaborate on what you don't get?
In other words, not trying to win over "black voters" but rather reaching out to fellow conservatives whereever you find them.
DNC does racial politics. We don't, at least we don't do it very well because our heart isn't in it, we don't believe in it so when we do it we do it badly. We ascribe to a few principles, and if you believe similarly, you are we.
If your primary sense of identity is ethnic, you are probably Democrat, and God bless you, that is where you belong. If you hold to principle ahead of conformity to some group or other, you are someone we would like on our team.
Getting kicked to the curb, due to visions of newly-minted Hispanic votes dancing in a few deluded heads.
The NAACP supports illegal immigration. Foolish and hopeless.
Now, that's what I'm talkin' bout! Conservatism is about personal responsibility, drive, goals, values and love of country. I pray that this movement continues. Peoples lives and hearts need to change.
Bubba was cagey, and knew that taking the black vote for granted would soon stop working for his party.
The day blacks leave the Democrat plantation, whether to vote their social convictions, or because they're sick of being taken for granted, or because Republicans really are color-blind in making high-level appointments, even if they don't flock to the GOP, but just start splitting their tickets and voting in a pattern approximating that of the rest of the electorate, will be the day the Republicans finally become the permanent majority party.
Bubba knew it, and the backers of Steele know it.
BC ping
Call me a racist if you want, but I have about given up hope for black Americans ever becoming a important voting block for the Republican Party. Michael Steele got his arse handed to him in PG, Montgomery, Howard, and Baltimore counties, as well as Baltimore City - all strong minority populations. He fared better in Charles County. He won every county west and east of that middle block. Than I look down at New Orleans where they vote Nagin back in. Swann and Blackwell get shellacked. I have come to the conclusion that if you put an R after the names of Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson, blacks would vote against them.
Steele got his arse handed to him by black voters.
Yassuh, boss -- yuh foun' me out... [rolling eyes]
Black conservative ping
If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.
More than five is outside the comfort zone of some.
Obviously.
Thanks for the ping, Mike.
Our first black impeached ex president cliton, came from Hope...
Unless some earth-shattering event happens-like a secret Democrat meeting where Hillary, Howard Dean, and Nancy Pelosi start dropping N-bombs on tape and laughing at how they always get 90% of the black vote, I don't see it changing any time soon.
Too many generations brainwashed, conservative blacks are ostracized, marginalized in the media, while Barack is hailed as a messiah.
Now if you had 5 of the biggest rap stars come out as conservatives, you might get somewhere, since their leads in fashion, "music", lingo, etc. are slavishly copied by blacks and suburban whites alike.
Not likely in my lifetime.
