Fellow Frustrated Gente,

Being a retired BPA myself, I know what it is to chafe at the restraints placed on you to keep you from doing your job. I always said that the kindest thing that could be said of most politicos was that they could plead ignorance. They always tried to avoid knowledge as they were taking campaign contributions from both sides.

A bunch of us old retired guys believe that our Nation is in peril of disastrous legislation that will make IRCA of 1986 pale in scope. I used to say that you couldn’t get a bunch of Pas to agree on what time to meet and go pick up $100 bills. Believe it or not a group of us actually found that we could form a consensus opinion about what to do and are trying to educate the public and get them to force our politicians to act responsibly.

I realize that you can do nothing as a group but I’m asking each of you to help us promulgate this document and get it to any politician you know. Please read it over and think about it. I think some of the names on it may surprise you because you never thought of them as “political activists”. None of us have governmental restraints on us any more and we all want to prevent our Country from being sold down the river.

Please feel free to contact us for further information.

Thank you

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FORMER BORDER PATROL AGENTS

Position Paper

On

Proposals for Immigration Reform Oct. 23, 2006

We, the undersigned former officers of the United States Border Patrol, offer our views on the following matters now under debate in the nation.

· Illegal immigration.

We believe that aliens residing in the United States must be here with the nation’s permission or they should leave or be removed. That begins by having a secure border and meaningful processes for screening those who wish to enter legally.

· Amnesty – by any name placed on it.

We absolutely oppose any legislation that would allow aliens to remain in this country who have entered illegally or who have entered legally and remained here illegally.

· Employer sanctions.

We support meaningful employer sanctions. Laws presently on the books are adequate tools for the purpose. Their use, though, has been subverted to meaninglessness through political and legal pressure initiated by those who benefit from the presence of illegal aliens. Those subversions must be minimized by a statement of purpose from the Congress and clear direction from the administration to the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice that those laws be aggressively enforced through administrative action and criminal prosecution.

· Guest worker program.

We support a guest worker program in principle, believing that it can serve the national interest. However, we also believe that –

o Guest workers must be limited in what they may do, what they may benefit from under immigration law, and the program must be tightly controlled.

o No alien in any illegal status should be allowed to participate in it.

o Application for the program must take place outside the United States.

o The applicant must remain outside the U.S. while his application is pending.

We do not delude ourselves, nor would we try to fool the American people into believing that the border can be made completely secure: it can’t. But it can be made secure enough.

Nor will we ever succeed in removing every illegal alien from this country.

What we can do, through the adoption and use of well-considered and effectively enforced laws, is gain control of a situation that now, in our opinion, threatens the national well-being. It will not happen overnight, or easily, but it can happen. To do less is to invite further chaos.

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FORMER BORDER PATROL AGENTS

October 24, 2006

Dear Sir or Madam:

Attached to this letter is a position statement issued by members of an informal association of retired Border Patrol officers.

We have arrived at a consensus about the national debate on the issue of immigration reform. Based on that consensus we have prepared a position paper articulating our viewpoints, accompanied by justifications for each point of view. It has been signed by one hundred ninety-five former officers.

Our group has an institutional knowledge that is deep and broad. There is recollection going back to the early 1950s represented here, and there is a cumulative experience base reckoned in terms of centuries. Among us are individuals who have served at all levels within the Border Patrol and its old parent organization, the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

Immigration reform is an issue that arises periodically in the national consciousness. The last time it rose to the level we see now was twenty years ago, when the Congress gave us the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Everyone who has signed this paper has first-hand recall of that act, and knows that while it may have changed immigration for this country, it neither reformed nor controlled it. The predictable results of it are the situation we see today.

It appears that there is a move under way to saddle the nation once again with law containing the same flaws found in the 1986 act, but now on scale unimagined at that time. We believe that the results for the nation will be disastrous if anything is passed that resembles what has been under debate in the Senate recently.

The nation has made demonstrable mistakes in the past in its efforts to control immigration. Let us, who were there to see them, remind the nation of the outcome and make suggestions for change.

We offer here our collective thoughts on the issues. Officers are available for further comment.

Opinion based on experience!

Amnesty – by any name placed on it.

We absolutely oppose any legislation that would allow aliens to remain in this country who have entered illegally or who have entered legally and remained here illegally.

You know, I keep saying that we need someone to lead the way in organizing an umbrella group that will unite all of the anti-OBL/border security groups together into one cohesive organization who's mission is just as they've stated. Who better than those with first hand knowledge and who will get this message out and organize the fight to defeat the OBL. Perhaps who could even support an '08 candidate, like Hunter or Tancredo, because the GOP will NOT, and candidates that do are going to be maligned as racist. But this can't wait until '08, this must be done now...if Bush and Pelosi (and now Martinez) have their way, shamnesty will be a done deal asap.

One more thing, as I read again through the list of retired agents, the thought crossed my mind, that if these former BP agents would take on the pro-OBL agenda, they would be leading the way in getting the message and truth out about the OBL, in true SBVT style. They have a multitude of years experience and first-hand knowledge and I really think they are the folks to do it. Any thoughts?

Mike Cutler has certainly done his best as a retired agent. He testifies for congress, puts out great information, appears on TV. In fact I got an email that he will be on Dobbs today. As for an "umbrella" group, yes, that has to happen. Some are trying and doing well. I've forgotten a couple names, but http://www.wakeupamericausa.com/ is the best I can recommend at the moment. It's Gilchrist, Cutler, Terry Anderson, Mark Edwards who started a radio show of that name.http://www.wakeupamericausa.com/000waf-minutemanradio.shtml

They've combined with the MMP (Gilchrist). They also list great news items on this subject.
