Rwanda gives French envoy 24 hrs to leave, cuts ties

KIGALI (Reuters) - Rwanda has cut diplomatic ties with France and given the French ambassador 24 hours to leave the central African country, Kigali's foreign affairs minister Charles Murigande said on Friday.

"We in the cabinet have decided to cut our diplomatic relations with France. We have ordered the French ambassador to leave our country within 24 hours and given other French diplomats 72 hours to leave the country," he told Reuters.

Murigande also said Rwanda would close the French cultural center in the capital Kigali.

The move came as Rwanda recalled its envoy from Paris after a French judge called for President Paul Kagame to stand trial over the 1994 killing of a former leader, sparking the country's genocide of 800,000 people.

French foreign ministry officials had no immediate reaction to Rwanda's decision to break off ties with its former ally.

IIRC, during the genocidal chaos, there was some story (urban myth?)
about one of the Rwandan thugs talking to a supportive Frenchman about
what was actually going on in Rwanda (e.g., there was a genocide occurring).

The Frenchman's advice to the killer?
"Just don't kill them on-camera."

We heard a similar report from Maronite friends in Lyons. That French secularists attitude is not unusual: so long as no one sees you or records you, do what you please.

French Indo-China: Viet Nam The Battle of Dien Bien Phu (Vietnamese: Chiến dịch Ðiện Biên Phủ) was the final battle in the First Indochina War between the military forces of France and Vietnamese revolutionary forces called the Viet Minh. The battle occurred between March and May, 1954, and culminated in a massive French defeat that effectively ended the war. Dien Bien Phu was "the first time that a non-European colonial independence movement had evolved through all the stages from guerrilla bands to a conventionally organized and equipped army able to defeat a modern Western occupier in pitched battle."

That was hardly a pitched battle.

They were talked into retreating into defensive enclaves where the were vulnerable to artillery and mortar attacks.

You can only win with an offensive strategy. Democrats want us to fall for the same trap.

Good.

Which is why we'll all be dead if we follow such a legalistic morality such as yours.....and read the quote again; you are misinterpreting it.

--The whole "surrender monkey" thing is getting tired and doesn't do history justice.--

The best thing they did was stopping the Muslim advance at Tours in 732. However, they are doing exactly the opposite today. Unless Sarkozy turns into another Charles Martel, France is doomed.
