How many more were poisoned?
Daily Mail ^ | 24th November 2006 | Staff

As the deadliest poison known to man was revealed to have killed Russian exile Alexander Litvinenko, the question last night was: How many more lives could it claim?

The 43-year-old former KGB officer was the victim of polonium 210, a radioactive element used as a trigger in nuclear weapons.

It is so powerful that a lethal dose can be passed on through the body in sweat or saliva.

So his widow Marina, 44, and ten-year-old son Anatole could have been contaminated just by kissing him as he fought for life in hospital. They are said to be at greatest risk.

But up to 100 other contacts will be tested among hospital staff, family members and restaurant workers who came into contact with him.

Chillingly, traces of polonium 210 have been detected at Itsu, the London sushi bar where Mr Litvinenko ate with a contact on November 1, at the four-star Millennium Hotel in Mayfair, where he met another associate that day, and at the family home in North London.

Detectives and scientists expressed open astonishment that such an elaborate and evil Cold War-style hit could happen Britain, describing the murder as ‘unprecedented’ and ‘mind-boggling’.

The Cold War is over the Iron Curtin has fallen, a new era of peace and freedom has stretched forth its arms from the former Soviet Union to embrace the World. /S

It seems you just can’t teach an old dog new tricks, when they like the old ones too much.

Wouldn't a place like London have radiation sensors all over that would have lit up like a Christmas tree when the assasin(s) smuggled this stuff into town?

And you can look into Putin's eyes and see his soul and the Chinese are stealing our weapons secrets because they admire and love us so much and want weapons just like ours and of course they deserve most favored nation status.

Will somebody in charge please wake up!

What is so disturbing is the viciousness of the death. Not just a "take him out" type death, but one that dictates unbelievable suffering.

alpha radiation is easily shielded from detectors (even paper) but internally, it will kill you sure as the sunrise.

Polonium is an alpha emitter. It emits no neutrons or gamma, so it's not detectable if shielded with a little metal

Probably not - Po-210 is an alpha emitter - you could shield it with tissue paper. Inside the body, however, it's extremely destructive.

Plus it proclaims to the world that
  1. It was done by an entity with access to Polonium, which means a nuke power
  2. It puts on notice anybody who speaks out against Putin: you will be killed

And if we can manage it let’s take out his wife and child with his kisses. How sick is that?!

Also we have the expertise to administer a just barely lethal dose.

And we almost managed to get away with out a trace.

‘unprecedented’ and ‘mind-boggling’.

Yes, not allowing your political enemies in the press to attack you daily without fear of retribution is indeed a mind boggling concept to western leaders.

This one has gotten a lot of press coverage. Clearly Putin intended it as a warning--to the UK as well as former Soviet spies. But this may backfire on him.

The man is a fool. Mark Steyn has a chapter on the Russian problem in "America Alone." The demographics are dreadful, around 1.2 children per couple. The country is riddled with disease and decay. Russian men now die at an average age of 55.

And all Putin can think of is foreign adventures, although Russians are now spread too thinly even to keep control over Russia. China, with whom he wants an alliance, will move into Siberia and take over the natural resources there. The Muslims, whom he is helping to arm with atomic weapons, will move into southern Russia. And Russia herself will vanish as a nation almost as soon as France.

None of this is funny for the world. If the Muslims take over friends, they will also take over Frances force de frappe. And if they take over Russia, they will take over the largest nuclear arsenal in the world.

The loss of France to the muslim menace would be just as devastating as Russia, if not more..

France has nuclear weapons, including the H-bomb, it has nuclear submarines, and it is probably more recent and up-to-date than russia...

Just my personal opinion, but France falling to Islam is probably more dangerous..
