Embassy denies asking Bush twins to leave Argentina

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (Reuters) - The U.S. Embassy in Argentina rejected reports that it had told President George W. Bush's twin daughters to leave the country after a widely publicized purse-snatching incident.

ABC News reported on its Web site on Monday that embassy officials had "strongly suggested" that the twins, Jenna and Barbara Bush, cut short their visit to Buenos Aires due to security concerns.

Argentine officials confirmed last week that one of Bush's daughters had her purse stolen in San Telmo, a neighborhood popular with tourists. The incident led to teasing by Argentine media about the twins' seemingly ineffective Secret Service bodyguards.

"We have seen a report from news sources stating that embassy officials strongly suggested that President Bush's daughters curtail their visit in Argentina," the U.S. Embassy said in a written statement. "This is false

"The embassy welcomes the visit and has provided close support and cooperation," the statement read.

Television footage showed the Bush daughters cheering on Argentina's most popular soccer club, Boca Juniors, on Sunday. The twins marked their 25th birthday in Argentina on Saturday.

It was not immediately clear whether they were still in Argentina on Monday.

Gotta wonder if they've ever cheered on an American team?

Applying logic to your question...

You do remember that their dad was part owner of the Texas Rangers right?

Do you really think that they didn't cheer on their dad's team?

Except in this case I don't see a single thing these girls did to "get in trouble". they certainly are not troublemakers if a purse and cell phone got stolen at a fancy restaurant.

It seems that at least 50% of the news is just made up anymore. Even here at FR, bogus stories are hashed and rehashed before we get word they've fooled us yet again. No matter how many times they play the same game, like Lucy holding that football for Charlie Brown, it seems almost impossible for most people not to fall for it. Maybe someday they will find a 'human gullibility for the media' gene that will explain it.

Why would one wonder that? I've seen them at UT games and Barbara at a Texas Rangers game. I would really like an answer as to why that comes to your mind, I mean these are Texas girls it's not like they're from Connecticut.

Actually, they are no different than anyone else. The only difference is that the media is there to report otherwise ordinary events.

I would not want to be the head of that Secret Service detail. If somebody could get to the purse to take it, he could just as easily have inserted a bomb into the purse

I still stand by this from the other thread
(http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1744697/posts?page=224#224)

The U.S. Embassy came forward and denied asking the President's daughters to leave Argentina but there has been no credible denial about what I reported concerning Donna.

You either can't understand logic and reasoning, or you are just trying to antagonize everyone.

I'm guessing it's just a +30 year old adolescent boy posting from his mother's basement agonizing over the fact that even farm animals turned him down.

At least that's what sources tell me.

good point. I still find it hard to believe the secret service allowed this to happen, (IF they did). something ain't right here.

"Perhaps I am just tired. . ."

I'm tired too, sick and tired of 99.9 percent of this world.

You mean Jenna and Barbara didn't show off their "Bush" credentials as media claims?
