I would agree with you that CFR as it currently exists is minor. But I don't agree that this is nothing to worry about. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. This is an effort to tip the balance of power between the parties, and even though it so far appears that it has had no effect, I am convinced that those who are behind it will keep trying until they are able to get away with something that does have an effect. You'd hope that the Supreme Court would stand up against that effort, but it looks like they've sold their soul. Not only are they not standing up to it, but it appears that they are leading the charge.

Another reason I don't like it is that in DC, laws are only enforced against Republicans. A Republican can't get a fair trial in DC. A Dem can't get convicted in DC. That's one of the reason Dems pass so many outrageous laws. They know that they don't have to follow them. Laws are only applicable to Republicans.

Regulation of federal elections is a power explicitly granted to Congress in the Constitution.

Let me put it this way, if I were a Republican under indictment for violating campaign finance laws, I would rather be tried here in Florida than in DC. I would pretty much consider it futile to contest charges in DC.

On the other hand, if I were a Dem, I would definitely rather be tried in DC.



The Congress may have the power to regulate elections, but there are limits to that. For example, they can't violate the First Amendment.
