The media and the late night idiots have succeeded in making Newt into a caricature ala Dan Quayle.
If only conservatives were allowed to vote, he'd probably win, but, his appeal to Indys and Democrats is probably nil, due to the Newt is the Boogey Man factor.
Newt has been able to articulate the president's positions far better than many in this administration.
He's articulate ,bright and can speak extemporaneously on a variety of subjects.
Newt's more realistic role now would probably be as the party's elder statesman.

Yeah, Newt's the man. It's obvious he has to run even if he can't win. The only way to bring up our issues.

He isn't, but having him in this campaign is just as important. Newt, for all his failings, has ideas, speaks well and is not afraid of the MSM. He will say what needs to be said during this campaign and call people like McCain to task for their utter ego driven stupidity. In the end, Newt will drive this campaign towards the issues that need to be discussed and a stronger Republican candidate will emerge because of it.
