Bingo! I see no reason why all contributions cannot be made by citizens and ONLY citizens. And the money not used in the campaign can be returned to the contributors.

I disagree - I am affected by all the Senators. So, I think it's fine that I can donate to any of Hillary's opponents, or Kerry's and Kennedy's, etc. Don't know if it does any good, but it makes me feel like I tried to stop them.
