Poland rallies past Russia to remain unbeaten
Poland rallied from two sets down to beat Russia 3-2 on Tuesday to remain unbeaten at the 2006 men's volleyball World Championship.
Lukasz Kadziewicz and Grzegorz Szymanski combined to score 32 points to lead the Poland team to the 19-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-20, 15-11 victory. Mariusz Wlazly and Daniel Plinski added 12 and 11 respectively.
Semen Poltavsky led Russia, runner-up in 2002 World Championship, with 19 points but could not save Russia from Poland 's big comeback, Alexander Kosarev had 16.
Poland, who kept a perfect 8-0 win-loss record, now ranked first in the Group E and advanced into the top four with a match left.
Raul Lozano, head coach of Poland, said highly of the success.
"The Russians played very well, especially in serving and blocking. They dominated us in the first two sets. We couldn't play in our normal style. Our attacks weren't the speed and quality they usually are. But in the end, we are really satisfied to win against such a strong team." said Lozano.
Now they now how it finishes, when one doesn't eat Polish meat :-)))
If you see them running at you with an umbrella, run like hell in the opposite direction.
Bad news :(
BTW, Russian women Volebyball Team became World Champion several days ago for the first time.
Quite right. I will alter my observation: If you see any Russian soccer players running toward you with either an umbrella or some sushi and a spritz bottle, run like hell in the opposite direction.
