Congressional Dems to take over Republican Bible Study room
The Hill ^ | Nov 29, 2006 | Patrick O'Connor

Rep. Sam Johnson (R-Texas) expressed astonishment during a recent meeting of conservative lawmakers that Republicans would soon lose the room where members hold their regular Bible study, an aide present said.

On a similar note, Republicans across Capitol Hill have been forced to confront the unwelcome presence of Democrats touring their offices to map out arrangements for the coming Congress.

The Republican retreat from ornate leadership chambers and spacious committee offices has been a harsh awakening for members of the outgoing majority, but that is just one of the many difficult realities GOP members and staff must accept about life in the minority.

Still stinging from their midterm defeat, leaders in the House must rewrite the party?s internal rules to adapt to their diminished status and reorganize the Steering Committee to decide who will serve on each committee and who will be the ranking Republican before slinking off to the offices allocated to them by Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

Let me guess--they will decorate with pagan symbols.

Nothing out of the ordinary, pretty much what the republicans did, when they won. Just standard change of command.

San Francisco values... they'll be lucky if they're allowed to display a bible in their own office, let alone pray there.

It will probably be a Muslim prayer room.

I agree...the Bible Study Room was probably just a conference room that the Republicans had control over being the majority party. Now that the Dems are in control, it is their room to do with as they wish. It's not like they're banning the Bible Study group or anything.

Good! Maybe the remaining Republicans will get the message.

(No, I did not cast a protest vote).

As I understand it, personal office space is controlled by seniority. A 20 year GOP member will have plusher digs than a Democrat freshman.

However, the committee and conference rooms will now go to the Dems, and the GOP will likely have to meet in the basement somewhere.

I expect the Dems will call in a voodoo priestess and sacrifice some chickens to exorcise the righteousness from the room before they occupy it.

Congressmen conducting Bible study -- irony knows no bounds. There certainly hasn't been much evidence that Bible study rubbed off in any way -- unless there's a "Book of Pork" that I'm unaware of.

They'll lose the room they hold the bible studies in now. It doesn't say that there won't be a room available to them.

Congress needs to quit concentrating on pure politics and power plays and start doing their jobs.

I know this has been said before, but had the Republicans done their jobs, they would still be in the majority.

I'm hoping our new leaders in Congress learned from their mistakes.

I guess you don't know Rep. Sam Johnson then. I feel for him every time I see his deformed hands, thanks to the VietCon Hanoi Hilton guest services.

No, they will turn it into a place where Barney Frank can have his discreet activities.

Yeah....EXCEPT...when the Pubs won in 94 they did NOT make the Dems move out of their Speaker's headquarters.....but, now Nancy P is forcing the Pubs to move out of their Speakers headquarters.....she's a biotch.

It's symbolic. Let the Democrats run the Congress and our country doesn't have a prayer...
