Ya like that word "idiot," don't ya? Says more about you than it does me. BTW, there must be a lot of idiot conservatives in Virginia. We turned the tide with a 7,000 vote margin. Think of us as the thinking man's conservative.

How about this, F off?

I just can't abide the stilted prose of the twerpy George Will. Is that a bow tie around his neck, or a starched organdy crinoline?

Classy

Right! You're showing lots of **ass.

For all you try, this has nothing to do with NY. Webb will march to his own drumbeat.

If I had to guess, someone is just po'd because the thinking conservatives canceled out B-Bot phoney conservatives. Real conservatives are unhappy with the conduct of the war in Iraq and they voted against the administration's immigration amnesty plan. Should have been a landslide instead of just a 7,000 vote margin.

Try putting some ice on it, "idiot" man.

IMO an idiot is free to claim that "thinking conservatives" want the Dems running the Senate.

He can claim "thinking conservatives" want Dem policies to have majority support in the Senate: an idiot says such things.

'"Thinking conservatives" want amnesty for illegal immigrants and redistribution of wealth like Schumer's choice for the Senate Jim Webb does"- sure, an idiot can say that. And in this country he can vote to make it happen too, obviously.

When will that idiot learn he was wrong? Well, it depends on the idiot. If, like Webb, he has no principle or honor- never, no matter what Webb does.

Webb is bought and paid for by the unions, his behavior reflects this.

While I am on the subject of the unions, DeMint has a bill before congress to deny security identity cards for admittance to secure areas of ports to felons. This is an important security measure that the unions are fighting. This bill needs our support. If you can help, I'll get the number of the bill for you.

Thank you Virginia...

As a Virginian, I would find it hard to believe that any conservative in Virginia could have voted for Webb. There are plenty of "establishment" Republicans in VA (John Warner's base), and a sizable, growing, democrat population in Northern VA. These groups went for Webb, not the conservative VA republicans who frequent FR.

To make matters worse, I predict that two years from now John Warner will retire, and Mark Warner will run for his seat. Idiot voters will vote for Mark, thinking it's John Warner, or maybe his brother, and we'll be saddled with Mark Warner as Senator for years to come.

I'm wondering how this story got reported so fast and who overheard the confrontation?

it sure sounds like Webb was setting up Bush ahead of time knowing he would have a juicy story of how he was a tough guy and stood the President down

bang he had the story out in no time

if he detested Bush so much that he wouldn't greet the Presidential host then he should have come to the party but then there would have been no story of Webb standing tall to Bush

Webb reported it to the press, himself. He's proud of his thuggish behavior, like I said, it typifies his supporters.

that's what I thought

but was wondering if anywhere it can be proven Webb himself or his people were the ones to break the story?

that would pretty much prove it was a set up, all planned by Webb to have that confrontation to creat the story

otherwise he would have made up an excuse why he couldn't attend the reception

Read to the end, please.

I figured you voted for this Durbin twin. Exactly what do you expect this conceited irresponsible excuse of a man to do? He has shown imprudence and immaturity. He is a now Junior Senator. What exactly have you and all other wise veterans done by giving the House and Senate to the Democrats? Do you really believe Iraq and the US will be better served with Pelosi/Murtha/Waxman at the helm? I don't even want to think what will happen with Senator L from Vt. in charge of committee? Schumer is going to be insufferable. Do you truly believe this election was something our Military really wanted? Was the outcome of this election the best for our country, for our Military?

This past Friday I listened to NBC News with Brian Williams. He compared WW2 to the Iraq war. His comparison was based on number of days. He didn't compare the casualty rate. He didn't compare cost. The lack of perspective annoys me. This war in terms of cost is NOTHING compared the WW2.

BTW, you are right, I did go shopping after 9/11. I shopped for our Soldiers and Marines.

Also you are right to feel anger and disappointment when you see your son going back to Iraq again and again and then you see your neighbor's son hop into his BMW while listening to his IPOD. And you are right to comment on that. I am equally ticked off at my friends for being so misinformed and casual about world events. My one friend refused to let her son (17 yrs old) to even speak to Military recruiters. I cannot tell you how disappointed I am in some of my fellow citizens. But then I hear from an old friend who is serving and I read about your son and I realize that there is hope. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for that.

First of all, thank you for the kind words about my son and others who serve in harm's way. I know you do things for the troops and it's much appreciated.

Now, my vote. Saying I voted for Durbin's twin is a cheap shot, and it's irrelevant. If Webb's democrat colleagues think that he is going to "go along to get along" they'll soon learn different. Before 07 is half gone, I predict he'll have had at least a few publicized donnybrooks with the dem party. The dems have worshiped McCain for some time - now they'll have their own "McCain." Remember Zell?

As for this little dust-up that W and Webb allegedly had, it too will pass and they'll both get over it and move on. But, who doesn't appreciate someone speaking truth to power. About 12 years ago the father of a Ranger Sergeant who was killed in Mogadishu refused to shake Clinton's hand and had a few choice words for the man he thought was responsible. What a country. There are, no doubt, many other family members of those serving, those fallen and those who will forever be scarred by this war who will celebrate what Webb said (if that's what he really did?). I know I celebrated the Retired Army Colonel who refused to shake Clinton's hand and told him he wasn't fit to be President.

"The lack of perspective annoys me. This war in terms of cost is NOTHING compared the WW2."

You have the constitutional right to be annoyed, but this war has cost as much if not more in blood when you consider the small percentage of Americans who are in the fight. As far as dollars, half a trillion ain't "nothing."

Here is a great site that compares cost and treasure of all US wars. You will find it concise and fascinating.

http://www.cwc.lsu.edu/other/stats/warcost.htm

Now, you may find this interesting. I just received an email from a mother of the 173rd Airborne. It conveyed that the U.S. Marines had contacted Starbucks and asked them for support since they love Starbucks Coffee and give their fair share up until now happily to Starbucks' bottom line. Starbucks refused because "they don't support the Iraq War". Every time Durbin, Murtha, Kerry, et al. belittle the Iraq War effort they give support to fellow citizens who refuse to do their share. And you and I know there area millions of fellow Americans who are not doing their fair share.

You like to blame Bush for that. Well I would put forth the argument that every time Webb has a rabid fit, Murtha gurgles some untruth, Kerry insults the Military another citizen uses that incident as an excuse to do less.

Yes, I did read about the the father of the Ranger Sergeant who refused to shake Clinton's hand etc., which is fine but only if you think the many thousands of parents who lost their sons in WW2 should have done the same to Roosevelt? War is war and as you personally know it is heartbreaking and tragic on so many different levels. Now, if you and the majority of us Americans despise war so much, then I suggest we find candidates who will eliminate the Military entirely. If we walk away from this WOT I will no longer support having a Military. There is absolutely no point to having a Military since we civilians don't have the stomach to finish the task at hand.

Something just crossed my mind. A restaurant in the Dells is owned by a family that had 12 of 13 sons fighting in WW2. Thankfully but still tragically they lost only (why I used the word thankfully) one son. The parents never ever complained. They took their responsibility as citizens very seriously and no matter how many battles America lost no matter what the cost in young lives these parents never turned on the War, not ever, despite having 12 sons fighting in both theaters. We the generation(s) after this generation lack the character and will to win a war, we lack the character to endure and that is why I am beginning to think we should disband our Military. Our Military deserves better than we civilians have to offer. If Durbin, Kerry and Murtha are the best that we can elect than we might as well hand the world over to the terrorists. Now I'm sure you would add Bush to that list, but Bush has never purposefully insulted and belittled the Military.

With the Webb win, Durbin's political hand was strengthened. This is the Senator, who on June 5, 2005 compared our Military to the SS, the Khmer Rouge and whatever else. I cannot tell you how much that bothers me.

Durbin is a creep and unimportant, except that he is number two or three in the Senate leadership. Because he didn't serve in the military, I believe he tried to use Tammy Duckworth as a foil against the Republicans. Sort of a psycho guilt trip on his part. Sadly for her, she lost. As long as the Dems were going to take the House anyway, I sort of hoped she'd win. As for Webb and Durbin, I can't imagine that they will be buds for long. Maybe Webb will save his boxing skills for the fat, peachy loudmouth? Just wait, Durbin will over-reach now that the dems are in the majority and he has a leadership position.

I had not heard of the family from the Dells (I take it that is in Illinois?). I wonder how many of those sons were drafted? BTW, the new Intell Chair, Reyes, was drafted in 68, served as a Huey Crew Chief in Vietnam for 13 months and was awarded a Purple Heart. Hopefully, a good compromise choice since it was a lose-lose proposition if Pelosi chose either Harmen or Hastings.

Casualties

It's always apples and oranges to compare wars but my point is that during WWII we had over 16,000,000 men and women in uniform with over 10,000,000 drafted. I don't know what the population of the country was then but if you assume half it would have been around 150,000,000. Our military is somewhere around 2,000,000. To feel like WWII we would need to have 30,000,000 men and women in uniform. Of course the casualties don't compare but when you consider the casualties in just the Army and the Marine Corps, it's a heavy burden for those communities to bear.

Murtha

I think Murtha was dissed so bad that he is, right now, trying to determine the best time to make an exit. I think he'll retire before the 08 election.

The restaurant is in Wisconsin Dells, and to the best of my recollection, which is not as good as it used to be, they all volunteered. All their portraits hang over the bar. I believe at least one of these heroes is still alive.

We will see how Reyes serves this country.

And you are correct the casualties in the Marines and Army are very difficult to bear considering the size of the combat units. What is worse the country loses an exemplary citizen each and every time. We lose a citizen who is willing to do what is needed leaving behind lesser citizens to carry on. Now that last statement would be a party stopper this coming holiday season.

One of my adopted Marines will be going back to Iraq. Right now he is in training. His emails became shorter and shorter. At last he spilled the beans.
On his birthday night he visited a cemetery and just sat. It's very tough. We made it tougher on November 7th.

Durbin is a disgusting excuse of a Senator and because of the way the vote turned out, he has more power than he deserves.
