EXCLUSIVE: Iranian Weapons Arm Iraqi Militia
ABC News ^ | November 30 2006 | JONATHAN KARL AND MARTIN CLANCY

Posted on 11/30/2006 8:19:10 AM PST by jmc1969

U.S. officials say they have found smoking-gun evidence of Iranian support for terrorists in Iraq: brand-new weapons fresh from Iranian factories. According to a senior defense official, coalition forces have recently seized Iranian-made weapons and munitions that bear manufacturing dates in 2006.

This suggests, say the sources, that the material is going directly from Iranian factories to Shia militias, rather than taking a roundabout path through the black market. "There is no way this could be done without (Iranian) government approval," says a senior official.

Iranian-made munitions found in Iraq include advanced IEDs designed to pierce armor and anti-tank weapons. U.S. intelligence believes the weapons have been supplied to Iraq's growing Shia militias from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, which is also believed to be training Iraqi militia fighters in Iran.

Evidence is mounting, too, that the most powerful militia in Iraq, Moktada al-Sadr's Mahdi army, is receiving training support from the Iranian-backed terrorists of Hezbollah.

Two senior U.S. defense officials confirmed to ABC News earlier reports that fighters from the Mahdi army have traveled to Lebanon to receive training from Hezbollah.

While the New York Times reported that as many as 2,000 Iraqi militia fighters had received training in Lebanon, one of the senior officials said he believed the number was "closer to 1,000." Officials say a much smaller number of Hezbollah fighters have also traveled through Syria and into Iraq to provide training.

I have a feeling that the only reason ABC
went with this story was to prevent being
scooped by another news outfit.

It's inevitable, we will have to start
harming Iranian and Syrian interests sometime.
We've all known it was heading in this direction....JJ61

Time has long past to turn that cesspool of Iran into a part of the Persian Gulf. Amen.

I guess there is only one thing to do. Turn Iran into a glass factory.

Iran doesn't give a rip because they know how we operate. Rice will take the matter to the U.N. who will produce a series of non-threatening decarations against Iran for the next 20 years.

iran needs to be threatened

I know, why don't you get the UN to give them a "harsh reprimand."

Threatened? Threatened? Times up. Start carpet bombing.

We should be doing everything within our power to destabilize Iran - including wet operations directed against Iran's mullahs, high government officials and against Khameni and Ahmanutjob themselves. We should also be flooding Iran's opposition groups with money and weapons.

The mullahs have declared war on the U.S. by directly arming those killing our troops - it's time we responded in kind.

Big answer: Nothing, nada, zip. We've known this was going on for 1-2 years now, and the Administration has done nothing about it. In that sense, Iraq is like Vietnam, and Iran and Syria are Cambodia and Laos - untouchable avenues for troops and materials being used to KILL American troops with impunity. Of the Bush failures in Iraq, this is the biggest in my book.

And now, with that incredible piece of crap commissin report set to come out, the President won't even have the political will to do something about it. His hands will be tied politically.

We can't do that. Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry, and the gang think Iran is our friend and ally just like Syria and North Korea. They've never met an enemy that they didn't love and respect and feel sorry for. It's "hug a terrorist" month in DC.

"An MOAB would do the job nicely."

I wish there were historical facts to back that up, but there are none.

However, we know that dropping nukes on those hell bent on killing us AND themselves do end wars.

Close the borders to Iran, Syria, and anywhere else that is a potential source.

Then kill anything that tries to move across the border.

Good chance to bomb Iran and Frances' factories

that supply weapons to our enemies,

sending the message,

that we are going to win at all cost.
