Anyone know why it is PG, I want to take my lower elementary age children to see it?

The only thing I can think of that would make it PG are King Herod's actions.

The ad in Yahoo shows the PG rating due to violence. Probably the slaughter of the innocents by Herod at the beginning of the movie.

Arfan (#59) took his 9yr old daughter to see it, and she liked it.

It has two childbirth scenes. For kids who haven't been prepared ahead of time by their parents, they could be a bit traumatic. That's the only thing I can think of. No nudity or cussing. Some shocking dead bodies courtesy of the Romans.

Probably King Herod's decision to order the murder of all boys under the age of 2, in order to kill the newborn King spoken of by the Magi.
