Latinos target FB rental law
Signatures sought to put migrant apartment ordinance on ballot

Dallas-area Hispanic leaders are calling on Farmers Branch residents to sign a petition calling for a citywide vote on the recently adopted ordinance that targets illegal immigrants who rent apartments.
For the issue to be placed on the ballot, the group needs the signatures of at least 5 percent of eligible voters registered during the last municipal election.

"The strategy here is to be able to challenge this ordinance in a legal manner, to let the voters decide if this makes sense for the city," said Michael A. Gonzales, who is helping to organize the petition. "There are many people in the city that realize this is affecting them whether they are Hispanic or not."

I'll definitely try to not release any information that has not already been posted in the media. :)
Be careful what you ask for.
I guess there could be a petition asking if illegals should be deported immediately, along with this petition. Bet they could get 5 percent easy.
Probably because "latino" is a made up word. The latin language comes from ancient Italy, and we are not being invaded by a bunch of guys dressed like Roman gladiators. I asked a hispanic guy once why they were called latino and he said it is because the spanish language has latin roots. The problem is, so does english, french, italian, and so on. He said he didn't like the word hispanic because it sounded too much like "spic" to him.
Oh no, can't have an election on actually enforcing the law don't ya know. Why that would be racist. < /silly >
On the other hand, if they got 51% of the regestered voters in FB to sign the petition could they just call it and skip the cost of the election?
