X-Rated 'Pornament' Christmas Decorations Raise Eyebrows
WKMG-TV Local 6 ^ | December 1, 2006 | Staff

Several new holiday decorations considered X-rated are being sold in Florida at a store popular with young children, according to a report. ...

Six controversial ornaments, which can be purchased for $9 at Spencer's stores in Jacksonville and other parts of Florida, include an X-rated snowman and reindeer.

A television station reported that the pornaments can be found on store shelves at the Regency Square Mall in Jacksonville in plain view of children and to anyone who walks into the Spencer's stores.

Store workers said that there were no restrictions on who can purchase the pornaments in the store.

"It is just sad they have to stoop to this kind of thing to defame Christmas," Hillcrest Baptist Church Rev. Jim Patterson said. "It says we are nothing more than sexual acts or psychical being and we are much more than that. We are spiritual beings and this is a spiritual holiday. And, why bring it to that level. It makes no sense to me."

Geez, Spencer Gifts? Why is anyone surprised?

For decades Spencer's has always been a trashy, mildly racy, largely kitschy, mainly dumb chain store filled with gag gifts, whoopie cushions, lightweight sex toys (silly stuff, not true adult-store material), black-light posters, and "head-shop" paraphernalia in the back. It's all stuff that's unrestricted. They've had racy Christmas and other various holiday stuff since I was a kid (I'm 54).

There's one in the local mall. Sure, kids can go into it -- nothing there is true "adults-only" over-18 stuff. This is nothing new, nor anything to get upset about. It's just trashy, and there's nothing illegal about trashy tastes.

The "pornaments" in the article look pretty dumb to me. I remember as a kid seeing a light-switchplate painted with a Santa figure so that the switch handle is in the place of the penis. I don't think it did me any harm.

> Can't they leave Christmas alone?

You'll notice they do respect some things. I've seen lots of stuff mocking Santa, elves, reindeer, etc. But I have yet to see anything in Spencer's that was truly defamatory, say a crucifix with Christ being fellated by Mary Magdalene, which I have seen elsewhere (and was pretty shocked by).

Spencer's is a lightweight, and they have limits on what they do.

Satan hates Christ, Jews and Christians.

To answer the question, no, he can't leave Christmas alone.

We sit here and B & M about this stuff, but NEVER DO anything about it as a group of concerned citizens.

It's time we develope statagies to ACT legally and gather as a majority to do whatever we can to effect change.

We know what good standards are, we know what decency is, we know what good manners can bring and we can be silent no more. Or country is being taken over by secularist, selfish prix and we must stop it before there is nothing we CAN do about it.

C'mon people let's stop COMPLAINING about this stuff and start talking about how we can effectively change course before it completely takes over our culture and way of life.

If they mean those under 18 and younger I'd ask what parents are allowing them to enter?

The parents using the mall as a babysitter. Sigh.

Sounds like the White House Xmas tree when Clinton was president.

For those who thought Paleio Conservative was joking, (s)he was not. This is documented in David Aldrich's book, An FBI Agent In The Clinton White House

(Apologies if I misspelled the author's name or have the title slightly wrong-can't see my copy right off.)

Yes, Spencer's has had trashy stuff for decades. Nothing new here. Not store you take your child in, for sure.

Alot of stores are getting very trashy. I was in Barnes and Noble recently, heading over to the children's department. On the aisle heading into the kid's area was the adult sexuality department, complete with nudity on the book covers. On the top shelf where the kids couldn't see it? Nope, about halfway down where the little kids could see it as they walk past. With only book spines showing? Nope, they made sure the front covers were clearly displayed.

Reverend, the commercialization of Christmas perverted it's spiritual meaning decades ago. Dec. 25th is the high holy day that every temple of Amercian consumerism from Best Buy to WalMart, etc, honors.

This is nothing new for Spencers. They have always had "raw" merchandise.

The ex-FBI agent is called Gary Aldrich (not 100% sure about the spelling), and his book about the Clinton White House (which includes the section about the Christmas tree being "decorated" with prophylactics) is called "Unlimited Access."

It's Spencers, they sell dirty stuff. Well actually usually the kind of psuedo-dirty stuff that's popular with 13 year olds. I'm pretty sure they've had this kind of stuff before.
