WASHINGTON: An Islamic civil rights group wants a columnist removed from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council for criticizing Rep.-elect Keith Ellison's decision to use the Quran during his ceremonial swearing-in next month.
Democrat Ellison, who won his seat in the Nov. 7 elections, is the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Congress.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations said Monday that comments by Dennis Prager, a columnist and conservative talk radio host, displayed an intolerance toward Islam that makes him inappropriate to serve on the council, which oversees the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington.
President George W. Bush appointed Prager in August to fill the remainder of a five-year term, which expires in January 2011.
In his column last week, Prager wrote: "Insofar as a member of Congress taking an oath to serve America and uphold its values is concerned, America is interested in only one book, the Bible. If you are incapable of taking an oath on that book, don't serve in Congress."
Nihad Awad, CAIR's executive director, sent a letter to the council's chairman, Fred Zeidman, that said, "No one who holds such bigoted, intolerant and divisive views should be in a policymaking position at a taxpayer-funded institution that seeks to educate Americans about the destructive impact hatred has had, and continues to have, on every society."

I don't care if ellison swears on the Koran. Makes it easier to identify the enemy. Religous freedom is a founding reason for our nation.
When Super 8 hotels replace the Gideon bibles with Korans, we will further know the enemy.
There's so much wrong with CAIR's statement, I don't know where to begin... First of all, which Islamic states allow Jews (or Christians) to practice their religion freely, and to be in public office? Not many, if any. Who's being intolerant? And WTF does CAIR have to say about the Holocaust anyway? They deny the Holocaust of the 1940's, and they're looking to kill every Jew on the planet today.
Why do these people feel like they can tell Americans how to act, what they can say or do??

Therefore, they have no business even commenting on who serves on the board of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington. Come to think of it, they have no business even being in this country.
I know what I would like to tell them Of course its physically impossible for them to do, but its an act they can do alone.
