I feel his pain, people up north have such an astounding amount of ignorance when it comes to the south. Sucks for him that his name is Looser though. I know he gets some serious crap for that name.

I call Mississippi "God's Country" myself.
Sterotypes don't work here anymore. Growing up in Marshall county in NW Miss., I never knew of any Klan or anything in my area. I go to Hawaii on spring break from college in 1988, and the lady there hearing my southern drawl thinks I'm from Texas. No I say I am from MS. She immediately asks if I am in the KKK, as "Mississippi Burning" was a movie out at the time.
Fast forward to the mid 90's, and the KKK had a rally in Memphis. There wer no local area KKK present, it was some from PA and IN.

Most people don't know that the KKK at its height was biggest in Indiana, not a southern state.

Mississippi has it's share of racist on both sides.
But they are the exception not the rule.

This is great. I think. But on second thought, do we really want a lot of people finding out how great our state really is? We might get overrun! Maybe it's best to just keep the secret to ourselves. ;~)

Pre Katrina Mississippi gulf coast was a beautiful area and from what I have read it is fast recovering and will once again be beautiful.
I'm also impressed by the residents almost total lack of whining as compared with residents of New Orleans.
They seem to have an attitude of, "let's just get it done and go on with our lives" while many people of New Orleans still have their hands out to the government waiting for the tax payers to make everything right again.

Maybe it's best to just keep the secret to ourselves Good point. Remember what happened to northern Virginia, south Florida, metro Atlanta, and parts of North Carolina when Northeasterners swarmed into these area, fleeing their Yankee hellholes. However, they also changed the culture from that of the traditional South to that of a suburban county in the Northeast. A new breed of politician arose in these areas who more resembled Ted Kennedy or Chuck Schumer than Jesse Helms or John Stennis.
It might be best not to publicize Mississippi and let liberals assume the worst.

Sucks for him that his name is Looser though. I know he gets some serious crap for that name. Only if people, like yourself, mistakenly spell and pronounce "loser".

I do remember Haley Barbour going up to Congress to complain quite a bit about not getting relief fast enough. It was in the national press and didn't help the image of our President when it was taking a beating.

Ironic it was a person CT that ridiculed MS. I dealt with a few blue bloods in CT 12 years back when I was there on business. When I went there, I had some time to tool around before heading over to the hotel and working the next day. I landed in New Haven and went to the Yale Campus. It was interesting.
One of the people I was talking to the next day, I mentioned about the Yale campus and said that if you get off of the campus, you get into "boogy town". The person was offended and he said that "we don't use those kind of terms here, you might use them in Indiana with plenty of rednecks but we are better than that". Kind of a cold chill injected into the conversation ! Another thing that stood out, at the end of the day, we go back to the hotel and change. I get rid of the work clothes and put on some blue jeans, sneakers and a sweat shirt. I got stared at at most eating establishments especially. One of the people in the establishment remarked that I should wear some slacks and nice shirt and then mentioned that most places have high expectations.
Definitely different world in CT. I would take going to MS anytime over CT. I have been to AL and like the place and people. Very friendly.
