It's a wonderful gif! You should have seen the Peanuts cartoon where they were all playing football in the pouring rain and mud. The comments from each of them were hilarious!

I have one basset that will carry his leash around in his mouth. And one female basset that will not leave our feet while we are walking, leash or not.
We do take them out in the mtns periodically so they can run off leash for a bit. But, in town, they are always on leash.

My Golden leads me. He takes the leash in his mouth & decides which way, how far, and if we stop to chat to someone - how long!

You are so right about labs shedding....we had a pitbull for 17 years and he never shed...after he died, we got a black-lab doberman mix......she's wonderful dog....we love her, but her fur is everywhere.....I have to vaccum everyday....

.....I have to vaccum everyday.... I'm convinced the Oreck company has a deal with Santa to release hundreds of thousands of Labs around the country.

Our Golden Retriever used to do this, and sometimes we had a trick called "Walk the Girl" where he'd take my hand in his mouth and lead me someplace. He was a great dog. He's now over the bridge.
My rott shows very little interest in doing this. She's all business on walks (except when she wants to run and romp when the moon is full, no lie.)

But, But.. if I don't hold the other end of the leash, how will I know where Brucey (my fur child) wants to walk me?

My late Golden "Terra" did this naturally. She didn't seem to like it dragging when I wasn't holding it. My current Golden, Max< won't do it, however. He's picky about picking up anything besides tennis balls and rawhides.

I agree with both of you. Before we put down our dog this past summer, we had him leashed all the time. Particularly during the summer because there is a local cyclist group that would ride past our house and if he wasn't on a leash, he'd definitely go after them. Matter of fact, one time we had the leash tethered to the chair on the front porch (one of those floor mounted porch swings) and he went chasing after them with the swing in tow. Kinda funny, actually, but it was after that when we realized that he knew that the swing could come along with him if he so desired, and he was big enough to pull it. Needless to say, we found something heavier to tie the leash to.
