The proverbial nuts of true Conservatives have been bound and gagged by the MSM, the PC crowd and the ACLU. It's been over for years.

I agree with your post, up until the last line.
Compromise is about each side getting something.
Conservatives wanted to teach the republicans a lesson and they got that.
Liberals wanted to win an election, and they got that.
Here each side got what they wanted.

I just watched the Charlie Rose show on which he had both Baker and Hamilton. Both men were brought on to talk about their report naturally.
After watching those two, I came to the conclusion that they were both a couple of airheads. Heads in the clouds.
Apparently we are supposed to believe that all we needed, that the missing ingredient to winning this war is for both sides, Republicans and Democrats, to get bi-partisan, and put out a bi-partisan report. Yeah, that was what missing. Republicans and Democrats holding hands, singing Kumbaya. I'm sure the Taliban and al-qaeda is shaking in their boots and ready to surrender once they learned that James Baker was going bi-partisan with Lee Hamilton.
