Frist is throwing out "unanimous consents" out like water .. speaking 90 mph.

I think the tax bill extension was passed.

PING!

I'd like to see the status of all these bills. It's wild ...
Frist is whizzing through these like he's on speed.

He's saying they finished up their work.

Holy cow!

Were the tax cuts extended or made permanent?

Or, thank God for the last minute, or we'ld get nothing done.

The summary screen I just saw on C-SPAN 2 mentions offshore drilling passed.

As a Florida resident, I say YES!

Frist: recalling last night. Had dinner with his family .. they're empty nesters now, but their 3 sons came to be with them for his farewell speech. They sat around the restaurant table, reminiscing. Their years have changed over the last 12 years ... but this was the term of the normal life of a citizen legislator, which was his intention when he came to DC.

The 3 young boys have grown into 3 robust young men, his wife is more beautiful every day. He's seen faith strengthened and challenged, and seen a group of men and women who are very good people: good intentioned, unselfish, people with real dreams. We all have our foibles and weaknesses .. but as his Dad always said, good people beget good people.

His Dad's letter before he died: advice to people you'll never see who come after you. His last words: finally, I believe it is so terribly important in life to stay humble, use your talents wisely and use other people's talents to help other people.

Asked that Senate be adjourned ... and people are there clapping.

Passed:

US exports nuclear tech. to India
Tax breaks extended
Offshore drilling
VietNam trade bill
Stopgap spending measure .. (I believe until 2/15/07)

They would've been made permanent if we had held on to Congress. An extension means they'll come up again as a political issue for Republicans to use to get back into power.

U.S. Senate Roll Call Votes 109th Congress - 2nd Session (2006)- Refreshed Every 20 Minutes

Anyone one know what the tangible difference is between "Agreed To" and "Passed?"

The only way to shut off the pork-barrel spending is to allow Congress to be in session four times a year for one month. Maybe then they wouldhave to prioritize??? These guys have way too much time on their hands - too much time spent thinking about how they can create their own legacies by using my hard-earned money.

Perhaps they are "battening down the hatches" for the Socialist storm about to hit us. Remember the "first 100 days" ninny pelosi keeps warning us about.

That means the 109th Congress is over. It has essentially ceased to exist, as opposed to being in recess.

Wrong. The that-which-is-not-Kosher-barrel stopgap spending has no measure nor is there any sunset anticipated.... /s

sine die -- all Latin vowels are voiced -- "see-nay dee-ay" -- it's Latin for "without a day." They haven't set a date to reconvene.

The date of reconvening would be what, Jan. 3, 2007 -- unless by law they set a different date? Does the different date have to be set by the previous Congress, or is it done some other way?
