Democrats stand by Siplin despite being convicted felon
Miami Herald ^ | December 9, 2006 | Gary Fineout

TALLAHASSEE - Orlando Democratic State Sen. Gary Siplin has earned a distinction unique in the history of Florida: He's the only legislator to remain in office even though he is a convicted felon.

And Siplin -- who still owes Miami-Dade taxpayers nearly $200,000 for a business loan he once received ---- is probably going to stay in office for a while.

Unlike local elected officials, who can be suspended by the governor after a felony conviction, Siplin's fate rests only in the hands of his fellow senators.

And so far, neither Republican leaders in the Senate nor Democratic colleagues support taking action against the former Miami resident and one-time bond lawyer -- even though Siplin's voting rights are in the process of being stripped and his license to practice law has been suspended.

Jefferson of La. was reelected by nearly 60% in a runoff yesterday. I guess that Nancy will refuse to seat him?

I wonder that the Feds are waiting for to indict the criminal.

Siplin's black. My suspicion is that the GOP leaders would rather that his district be represented by an ineffective Democrat than an effective one.

And .. William Jefferson (D-LA) has just been re-elected. FOX said it was amazing that he got re-elected due to the FBI's investigation and finding dollars in his fridge.

The dems definitely have a CORRUPTION PROBLEM.
