Gallagher Ga-Ga For Obama: 'Solid Ideas, A Moderate'
Fox & Friends Weekend | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 12/10/2006 4:28:50 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

Let's be generous and chalk it up to the early-morning hour. Otherwise we'd have to come down hard on radio host Mike Gallagher, who as a guest on this morning's Fox & Friends Weekend went ga-ga for Barack Obama. It's one thing to acknowledge as did Mike that Obama has appeal as a candidate. But, interviewed by Keran Chetry, it was Gallagher's praise for Obama's substance that shocked, coming as it did from a putative conservative. Said Gallagher:

"He's got some pretty solid ideas. He's a moderate."

Moderate?? If Mike would check Obama's record, he'd find that in addition to having received a perfect 100% rating last year from the paleo-liberals at Americans for Democratic Action, a host of other ratings Barack has received screams "cookie-cutter left-wing Democrat":

* Planned Parenthood 100% in 2006.

* National Right to Life Committee 0% in 2005-2006.

* Americans for Tax Reform 0% in 2005.

* NAACP 100% in 2005.

* American Conservative Union 8 percent in 2005.

* Illinois Environmental Council 100% in 2003.

* Children's Defense Fund [Hillary's old beat] 100% in 2005.

* National Organization For Women 100% in 2005.

* NRA, 'F' in 2004.

* Federation for American Immigration Reform 0% in 2005.

* 2005 AFL-CIO 92%.

So just what are those ideas Mike finds "solid," and where is the proof of Obama's moderation? Come on Mike - have an extra cup of coffee and check the record to stave off recurrences of early morning bouts of Obamamania.

I turned Fox news off this morning. It appears they can't get enough of Obama, so they can do it without me watching it.

I never thought much of Gallagher when he did a morning show with Lionel in NYC. Gallagher quite obviously says things just to generate controversy. It's rather transparent.

I'm just sayin'.... who else are you looking at from the Dems beyond Hillary?

Man. That is so bleak.

A wee bit of hyperbole on your part. Obama is a socialist. I hate when liberals call us fascists, we should do the same.

Unless you see Obama suggesting that all businesses be turned over to the government, God be outlawed, and the end of any profit based earnings, he is not a marxist. He's a socialist. It's bad enough.

Mike Gallagher is a blithering idiot. He cheered Janet Reno's jackbooted thugs who sent Elian back to that Island Gulag.

We had a game show called "Mastermind", in which Magnus Magnusson would grill a contestant in depth on a subject

One of the funniest Benny Hill skits ever was his parody of Mastermind.

Yeah. Too weird. He was really good in the Mozart movie with Tom Hulce. "Too many notes!"

"He's got some pretty solid ideas. He's a moderate."

Ahhh, nope!

Mister Obama is currently succeeding at what Hillary Rodham wants most...

and that is to conceal one's true beliefs and intentions if elected.

What I fail to understand, is that with so many truly talented Conservative Republicans available, why does Mike Gallagher still have a radio program?

.

Well, given the leftist makeup of today's dem party, I suppose that Obama might just be considered a "moderate." Today, FDR would be considered "moderate." Anyone just to the right of Vladamir Lenin is considered to be "moderate."

I suspected Gallagher was a mental lightweight.

This seems to confirm it.

No mentions that Obama's father is a Muslim. Wonder how that polls?

OK, a flaming socialist then...although as far as the religion part, I believe his only use for it is as a political tool.

There are many substantive reasons to oppose candidate Obama. Picking on his given name is not only childish, but worse yet it makes it look like we don't have anything else in our arsenal.

Thank you for a good comment.

If Repubs/Conservatives are going to rely on Obama's middle name being Hussein as some sort of reason not to vote for the man, we are indeed in deep trouble. It's a non-issue. The man has plenty of substantive reasons why he is not a good candidate for President - folks need to focus on those.

The issue of his middle name is foolish.

Anyone who still thinks Fox is a conservative news outlet is delusional. They occasionally do a critical-towards-liberals piece, but they are far from what a true conservative would consider to the right of center, imo.

All kidding aside I remain baffled by Gallagher's performance.

People like Gallagher fawn over people like Obama out of White-Guilt. That seems to be part of our culture now.

Mike Gallagher responds

Mike Gallagher has responded to say he knows Obama is "no moderate." Gallagher graciously acknowledged that my column was "a well-deserved smack in the kisser," and attributes his comments about Obama to having had a bad day. Give Mike credit for owning up to a mistake

Well, the Democrats made a big deal about George FELIX Allen in an election not that long ago.

That only proves my point.

Making fun of a man's given name illustrates a lack of substantive arguments. It makes us look weak at best, childish at worst.
