Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that she will create a new congressional panel to examine the administration's intelligence budget and to make sure the money is being spent properly. Creating the panel, Pelosi said at a news conference, "makes oversight stronger and makes the American people safer."
Democrats have been highly critical of the conduct of intelligence agencies in the days before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and the lead- up to the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
Pelosi, D-Calif., also said that one of the first tasks of the Democratic-controlled House she will lead beginning in January will be approving the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission, including taking steps to make intelligence decisions more transparent.
The Select Intelligence Oversight Panel proposed by Pelosi would be made up by members of the Appropriations Committee and the Select Committee on Intelligence, and would work within the Appropriations Committee.
It would examine, through hearings, the president's intelligence budget, prepare the classified annex to the annual defense spending bill and conduct oversight of the use of appropriated funds by intelligence agencies.
What she plans to get some intelligence?
Sorry, couldn't resist.
I do not think the word "safer" means what she thinks it means.
Moron alert!!
So far, the one word I would not use to describe her plans is the "I" word.
I got here before you. First come, etc.
Nothing but blank pages....
I figured this was going to be her announcement on the 'IQ Ceiling'.
To wit:
"No one in a position of leadership in the house will have an IQ which exceeds my own"
First Reporter Question: "Well, madame Speaker, what IS your IQ."
Pelosi: "How much change to do you have in your pocket?"
What, is she going to go out and try to acquire some?
1970s Redux.
The Dims also say they intend to dictate (micromanage) the portion of the defense budget for Iraq. Another 1970s redux.
It is time the Congressional GOP (1) got WOT/Iraq/Intelligence Policy/Defense Policy backbone, (2)demand the POTUS use his veto, with (3)GOP Senators who will stand up and not provide the 2/3rds needed to break the veto; using the 2/3rds requirement to force down the Dims surrender policy demands.
McPain and others can either stand on the sidelines on these issues, or truly lead. The base will be watching.
"She wants to cut off funding or threaten to cut off funding for the Bush intelligence programs unless the president agrees to the democrat's demands."
Go for it, B----!
While the dems and Rinos are wringing their hands over the POTUS monitoring calls from terrorists to the USA..
They are busy making MORE committees to SPY on everything happening in Washington...more spying, more leaking.
But, heaven forbid that any of the agencies be able to spy on the bad guys.
You will see more Muslims appointed to key positions...we need to be diversified of course
Pelosi and Intelligence Plans do not belong togeather. So far she has not done anything correct with more of the same coming.
I'm sure she'll want to make sure the committees are diverse. Half the members will support the defense of America against terrorism, and half will support the destruction of America.
Oversight by ding-a-lings like that?
SNORT.
Oh there are plenty of "I" words that adequately define this wench..
I'll start:
INEPT!
Does not compute.
Does not compute.
Does not compute.
Does not compute.
Does not compute.
Does not compute.
Does not compute.
Does not compute.
Does not compute.
What, is she getting a brain transplant?
