Are you referring to Barack Obama and his recent comment to Maureen Dowd?

Obama won a regular election, he was not appointed. You may be thinking of how his opponent, Jack Ryan, dropped out late in the race after messy divorce facts came out, and was replaced by Alan Keyes.
