Actually, it "is" dreadful. I much prefer that Californians stay in California. These people never learn. They leave California, the upper east coast, etc, because of high taxes and lack of opportunity. Then, they relocate to states such as Colorado and Texas and the first thing they want to do is re-make these states into the image of the state they just left. Go figure....

Same thing with the Yankees moving down south.

Actually, this native Northern Californian decided last year I need to leave this state (that geographically, I love so much!) because I'm surrounded by "Hey let's be Socialists and disarm ourselves and vote for traiters and disrespect our President and our military and our vets by voting Kerry and hate America because we CAN" commrade types, not for lack of opportunity or the expensive cost of living.

I'd be glad to pay more to live in my lovely home state, but I can't stand A) the fact that all I can legally carry in my 'hood (designated "blood" turf) is my pepperspray and that I'd probably spend time in jail if I shot a convicted rapist/murderer/psychoticMethFiend breaking into my home; B) how our voters seem to nod yes then vote based on the emotional inflection the newscaster/alternative-weekly/lib-blogger liberally presented (or they just stay home); C) how Governor Schwartzenegger acts like a super-buffed RINO; D) stem-cell legislation to the tune of $3 Billion got voted in so yet another bureaucracy is funded basically out of pure spiteful hate of President Bush; and so on.

Not that I don't doubt what you're saying applies to a lot of the Californians who've moved to your states, given that it's not just conservatives fleeing, but still - the blanket statements do not describe how I plan to vote in the state I plan to move to. I would be proud to live in a community of conservative voters with some sense in their heads who pay attention and think long-term (not to mention living near WAFFLE HOUSE and being able to buy the AR-15 of my dreams!)

Those are our moderately conservative types. The liberals aren't moving out. ;)

How do you think California got into the current mess? All the East Coast liberals moving here, remaking the place into the same thing they'd left! Just think Nancy Pelosi:

Her father, Thomas D'Alesandro, Jr., served as Mayor of Baltimore for 12 years, after representing the city for five terms in Congress. Her brother, Thomas D'Alesandro III, also served as Mayor of Baltimore. Pelosi graduated from Trinity College in Washington, D.C. in 1962.

Or Barbara Boxer: born Barbara Levy in Brooklyn, Kings County, N.Y., November 11, 1940; attended public schools in Brooklyn; graduated, Wingate High School 1958; B.A., Brooklyn College 1962.

We've got a few home-grown radicals like Jerry Brown but most of our Communist nutcases like Tom Hayden and his crowd migrated here from the East.
