As long as you have a single-member district system in the United States third-party politics will continue to serve no purpose whatsoever other than to almost always put the least popular candidates into office.

Get rid of the single-member districts and we can talk about third parties.

Would seem you continue to be confused. You can be a Libertarian or a Christian but not both

Funny thing there. I am.

Christians can't just "pass on by".

No they cannot. I do not. However they should not use the government to forward their agenda. Seems quite a few Christians have swallowed the bilge of State and Christianity, which is not much more than a form of State worship.

Again, you cannot be both a Libertarian and a Christian. Libertarianism REQUIRES that you "pass on by" ~ every single time.

This has nothing to do with using or misusing government power. It has everything to do with your personal morality.

Wrong way to go Barr, this party is worth fighting for. If we are infiltrated by a bunch of Rinos time for a little tom DeLay extermination.

Tom DeLay is part of the problem. Pushing big spending programs, pandering to the Christian Right, hostility to civil liberties, corruption, etc. There's not an honest, small-government conservative bone in his body.

Have you so thoroughly adopted a statist approach that you've completely forgotten private charities exist? It seems that in your mind the only way to help the less fortunate is through government intervention.

So does this mean you don't care about a fence now?

I support a border fence and disagree with the LP on this, as most Libertarians do.

Of course not ~ but the fundamentals of Libertarianism allow one to ignore private charity while opposing public relief.

"Pandering" to who? Voters?

No third party can possibly advance its fortunes by rejecting the support of the voting public.

No wonder Libertarianism is doomed to stay in the gutter.

Just because I can ignore private charity as a Libertarian (I can as a Republican or a Democrat, too), that doesn't mean I can ignore it as a Christian. I don't see why you think the two cannot co-exist.

I'm slow. Explain it to me step-by-step. Specifically, what ascepts of the two are mutually exclusive?

Bob Barr will never be the POTUS for any party, mainly because he doesn't show well and is a horrible speaker. But, I respect him for marching to his drum.

Yes, that's true. And remind me how exactly that translates to your earlier statement, "Libertarianism REQUIRES that you "pass on by" ~ every single time."

Is it fair to say that you purposefully distorted libertarian beliefs in your previous statement?

The Republican party is the ONLY way for us to advance our agenda. Unless we stay united in our dislike for Democrats, we're doomed.

So you're willing to bend for the Libertarian Party on this issue, huh??

The LP's platform actually calls for a secure border, though it does advocate for a "simplified" immigration process.

I think this has changed from the past, but the current platform is rather clear that the border should be secured and entrance should be limited to screened individuals who have demonstrated compliance with immigration laws.

saying he is disillusioned with the GOP on issues such as spending and privacy.

We were going into a recession so we had to artificially crank up the economy by increasing government spending. Once the economy perked up we were to throttle down the spending. Then we got involved in the war on terror. This required us to continue spending on the military plus increasing our surveillance of possible enemy activities.

Our economy is humming and the terrorists are on defense. Would Barr have done it different?

There is always people that want to tell you how they would have done something better after the fact.
