Al-Qa'eda in control of Mogadishu, says US

The Islamic Courts Union in Mogadishu, the Somali capital, is riddled with al-Qa'eda operatives who are positioning for full control of the regime, Washington's top Africa official said yesterday.
"The Council of Islamic Courts is now controlled by al-Qa'eda cell individuals – East Africa al-Qa'eda cell individuals," said Jendayi Frazer, the US assistant secretary of state.
Key figures running armed militias loyal to the Islamic Courts Union (ICU) include three al-Qa'eda operatives wanted over the 1998 bombings of the US embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Mrs Frazer said. "The top layer of the courts are extremists to the core, they are terrorists and they are creating this logic of war."
The US has been accused of pushing hard for a military intervention to protect the weak interim government, based in Baidoa. Last week, Washington was instrumental in driving through a UN Security Council resolution calling for peacekeepers for Somalia, which the ICU rejected.
The statement from Mrs Frazer is unlikely to cool tempers in the stand-off between the ICU and the government, which is supported by thousands of Ethiopian troops. Hassan Aweys, the ICU's senior Islamist leader, described as a terrorist by the US, said his movement did not plan to attack the Baidoa government, only the "invading" Ethiopian troops. "We should have thrown them out a long time ago," he said.

Personally, I'd prefer the former.

Exactly... I hope Somalia spirals into an utter cesspool of Islamic beheadings and mass death. Let them kill each other in HUGE numbers. And lets hope they get very vocal, constantly issuing threats to behead the Western infidels.
It may be the first real opportunity since Ashcanistan to let the world know just what these blood sucking savages have in store for them.
