Zell Miller caucused with the Democrats and was the lynchpin of the Senate takeover after they bribed Jefford to switch to "Independent" and caucus with the Democrats.

The Dems have made the new rules -- no holds barred.

Too many of us don't have the stomach for knife fights or the stamina for the Long War with the Copperheads.

Democrats have plenty of octogenarians and septuagenarians to worry about...

Eleanor Clift, Helen Thomas... oh, wait, she means Senators.

That's lucky, because I don't want to be able to remember her after she's out of office. ;') Thanks.

Yep. The Masschusetts Dems screwed themselves over. They played petty politics just to deny a GOP Governor the chance to name a replacement. Of course, they can change the law back again and I would expect them to - its not the will of the people they care about but keeping power by all possible means, fair and foul alike.

Te-RAY-zuh didn't replace HER dead Republican Senator husband with a Republican one. Plus that was Senator Heinz's money, not hers.

Eleanor Clift has always been annoying, trite, obnoxious, partisan, and seriously ugly to boot. Woof!

I usually refrain from personal attacks, but Clift just makes me sick.

Wellstone died in a plane crash, but the dems used his funeral in a very unseemly manner as a political rally.
I was commenting on the uncouthness of the dems.

The game works both ways. Arlen Specter (R-PA) has been undergoing chemo for cancer, and PA has a Democratic governor, Ed Rendell.

Do you mean to tell me that Eleanor Clift is still running around loose? I thought they locked her in the booby hatch a long time ago.

Actually, John Fund is incorrect with his statement that: "Hawaii is represented by two 82-year-old Democrats, Daniel In-No-Way and Dan Akaka, and Hawaii's Republican governor, Linda Lingle would presumably nominate someone of her own party if a vacancy or two developed."

He is correct that two 82 year old geezers are senators, but by law Governor Lingle must replace Senate vacancies with members of the same party.

Eight states restrict Governor appointments with legislation for special election or replacement with a member of the same party.  The other 42 governors have absolute rock solid legal authority to appoint whomever they please.

He also misspells Hawai'i, but most people leave out all the apostrophes most of the time. As silly as it looks, the possessive form is really spelled with both apostrophes: "Hawai'i's Republican governor."  Lack of apostrophes is the leading cause of mispronunciations of many words such as Lana'i, ka'anapali  (island of La-Na-E, not La-NI, Kah-Ahn-ah-pauli, rather than Kain-A-Pauli etc.) Locals blame this on missionaries landing in the 17th century, and stealing all of their apostrophes.
