The Facts About the Sham Elections of the Islamic Republic

• The Iranian Solidarity Congress, in a press release, argued that while the Islamic Republic has been reporting high voter turnout in last Friday's elections, independent sources inside Iran say that the regime’s claim about high turnout is not true. The Independent Student Organization has stated that less than 5 million persons voted.
• Iran Focus reported that voting stations in Iran were deserted on Friday which marked polling day for both the Assembly of Experts and the local city councils in Iran, according to eye-witness accounts and reliable reports.
• The Asian Age reported that Former Iranian President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, humiliatingly defeated in the last presidential election is leading the ballot in Tehran province for the assembly of experts, the body that chooses the supreme leader.

 

Ahmadinejad stifles student dissent with 'star rating' system

• The Telegraph reported that University authorities in Iran have adopted a "star rating" system for politically-active students as part of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's crackdown on dissent within the academic elite.
