Well, almost.
It's good that she cites the judge in this case. I hadn't thought about his responsibility. But DA Nifong deserves at least a very long prison term, ten years plus to my mind. Instead Estrich calls for him to be "replaced on this case."
ML/NJ
She may well support a sentence after there's been an investigation of all of Liefong's activities, depending on what all he can be charged with at that time.
You won't hear any lawyers or law professors, etc., recommend a jail sentence for Liefong at this point. There needs to be an investigation and some concrete revelations coming out before any of them will stick their neck out that far publicly.
The oversight judge for this case used to work for Nifong, prior to his becoming a judge. He has a clear conflict of interest, and should have recused himself at the start.
What you're seeing here is North Carolina's "good ole boy" legal system in operation. They thought they'd be able to "handle" this one, but they miscalculated badly, and now it's spinning out of their control.
At some point they'll have to throw Nifong under the bus, and deservedly so. However, he is not solely to blame. The oversight judge, Attorney General and even the Governor are culpable as well for their oversight failures.
Exactly, Nifong deserves far more than to be replaced on one case.
Everytime I hear her speak it reminds me of someone dragging their nails across the blackboard.
I hope he is wrong but he is from that neck of the woods.....
I can't imagine anywhere else in the US where a witch hunt such as this would be allowed to go on knowing what we know, and knowing to what lenghts the DA is going to.....
the DA and the DNA guy have opened up a can of worms....I can see many cases that used that DNA lab having verdicts thrown out....
Then he can find out what "rape" is all about. Hey, Nifong, meet Bubba!
