TEHRAN (Reuters) - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday mocked President Bush and said Iran's nuclear program was a source of inspiration for other nations.

His typically outspoken remarks came after Bush said the Iranian president was out of step with the rest of the world and U.N. diplomats said a draft resolution imposing sanctions on Tehran for its atomic work should be approved on Friday.

Addressing a rally in western Iran, Ahmadinejad urged Bush to "step out of your glass palace and go to your people to see how isolated you are, not only across the world but also in your own country."

"Mr. Bush can travel to one of the American states, inviting the people to a stadium to see how the people would treat him," the ISNA students news agency quoted him as saying.

"I am sure that the American people would treat Mr. Bush as the Indonesian people treated him," he said referring to protests that greeted Bush on a visit to Indonesia last month.

Ahmadinejad said Western efforts to deflect Iran from its goal of perfecting nuclear technology were fruitless.

"Some so-called superpowers have gathered together and they think that they can control the whole world. I'm telling them: Open your eyes, today, the world no longer thinks your decisions have any value. Continued...

One of the best things President Bush has going for him, from a public relations standpoint, is this Iranian nut.

"Bush said the Iranian president was out of step with the rest of the world"

Sadly, I don't think this is correct. Huge populations agree more with Ahmadinejad than with President Bush.

NO! He's the unvarnished truth of the mindset in that neck of the woods. We need to see the democratic face of the enemy in Iran and Palestine. no shadow government run by terrorists but the actual official recognized government run by terrorists. No question about enemies and friends. You have to institutionalize the enemy to most effectively defeat him. No romantic version of what it could be like in an Islamic 'paradise'. No romanticizing of the robin's in hoods. Make em take their hoods off and practice politics. Let them live it.

Amazing how much these "leaders" sound (and apparently think) like children.

Huge populations do what they are told. Huge populations are malleable sheep. If we don't present the truth, they'll continue the accepting the lie that they are stuck living worse than rats because it's God's will.

Clear enough. 20% of the gov't seats in the Iranian Parliament were won by Iammadjohn's partisans. Pres Bush won none, zero, none at all.

I still contend that it would be a completely different world if we had nuked Tehran, Baghdad, and Mecca in the days immdiately following 9-11. And the repubs would likely still be controlling congress :)

My thoughts exactly. Unless and until we start slapping these basta#$@ds down in a complete and final way, we will continue to be mocked. Enough is enough. After WW2 we were adored around the world. Why ? The world saw what we will do if pushed too far.

Now, the appeasement crowd has given the world the image of a weak and unwilling America. We need to change that perception right now.

The guy is off his rocker. He is on his way out of office in Iran, even his own people see him for what he is.

Bush was speaking about the world population. There are aprox. 1.79 billion muslims in the world. A large portion of them are against President Bush and the U.S. I didn't say it was right, just that we need to have our eyes open and understand that our enemies are many and trying to claim they aren't, that people like Ahmadinejad are "out of step" with the rest of the world only shows that we have not accepted the extent the U.S. has enemies in the world
