CAMERON — Former presidents and A-list Academy Award-winning actors are a few steps up from the kind of dignitaries generally spotted at the dedication of a local hospital, but Cameron Parish hosted one of each at an event for South Cameron Memorial Hospital on Wednesday.
Former President George Bush and actor George Clooney headlined an event in the Hurricane Rita-ripped city of Cameron that was partly a rally and partly an announcement of a $2 million donation for the ruined hospital from the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund.
Welcoming them were hundreds of Cameron residents gathered on the bare foundations or what once was the Cameron Parish Police Jury building. The crowd — cheering and calling out to Bush and Clooney — stayed thick and enthusiastic even as rain and the temperature fell throughout the afternoon ceremony.
Bush and Clooney took time at event to sign autographs, shake hands and have their pictures taken with the people gathered to see and hear them. “The spirit of this place is unbelievable,” Bush said.
Bush told the group that Clooney made a special trip from the West Coast specifically to attend the ceremony, and Clooney said he was honored to have been asked. “I’m proud to be here, and I thank you for letting me come down here,” he said.
Clooney said, having been raised in tornado-prone areas, he has seen communities working to rebuild themselves.
“We’re a country raised to believe we can raise ourselves up by our bootstraps. Sometimes we don’t have boots,” Clooney said. “This town was left with nothing standing but a courthouse.”
Clooney said he learned that a community is about people more than buildings. He said that he and Bush were in Cameron on Wednesday not only to present the Bush-Clinton fund check, but to remind..

I must admit I am stunned..I am not surprised by President Bush (41) for showing up..but that Clooney would show up..living in Louisiana, I know the frustration of Hurricane Rita's victims in the southwestern part of the state..they are so forgotten because it did not happen in New Orleans..ok..I will man up this one time..Clooney did a good thing..now later when he calls 41's son a bad name, I will be enraged..
That Coast Guard Admiral in the photo should smack Clooney for the hell of it. I'll never understand 41 associating himself with Pigly Clinton.
Wrestlers do a better job of staying in character.

When I heard Micheal Savage months ago say the Bush's were in a cabal to get Illary elected in 08 I laughed at him.

The Bush clan hob nobs with some strange people. One might think.........oh, surely not.....
I am NOT impressed by this nor amused. This makes me sick just as it did when Daddy Bush said Clinton was like another son to he and Barabara.
