WASHINGTON — Just as federal housing money was to start flowing again to thousands of Texas-based hurricane evacuees, a federal appeals court put everything on hold Friday.

The ruling means that about 4,200 families in Houston, San Antonio and Austin who were left homeless by hurricanes Katrina and Rita will have to wait until at least February to find out whether the federal government is required to restore their rental assistance payments.

By then, the temporary housing program will have expired — unless Congress or President Bush extend it.

If it was an entitlement for every one - it would be fair. What it looks like is what it is... favoritism for a few who've had a year to figure out what to do with the rest of their lives.

This will go on forever! When it comes to money ... they'll keep reaching in your pocket. There is little incentive to get up on their feet and have THEM help themselves. Pity me silly is much easier. Demoncrats know this and so does Bush.

How pathetic the ghetto-ward dwellers of New Orleans are. They are children.

I'm ashamed of these people, no initiative, no drive, Thank God for Katrina, because it create more exposure into this disgusting welfare culture.

Just look at the forgot people of Mississippi. No complaining on their part.

Let the Katrinites STARVE.

These people have confused assistance from the government with adoption by the government.

I thought the key word here was "temporary", but I must be mistaken.

Just think "temporary tax". That will give you the meaning of "temporary" in gummit circles.

"It was really unexpected when (the rental subsidy) stopped out of the blue," she said. "I don't know what to do now."

And you expected it to go on forever. "She and her three children, ages 6, 4, and 3......
Advice... Use aspirin technique... Get a job... Soon!

"It's like a terrible roller-coaster ride," said Wanda Jones of Houston, a Katrina survivor and member of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now which sued the government. "Every time we go up, when we come down we lose more people. But we're going to keep on riding and keep on fighting in court for our rights."

First, she is not "of" or "from" Houston!
Second, they lose more people.....

Third, Their rights....
To be deadbeat freeloaders on working people?

U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Houston, ...... calling the members of the Court of Appeals "scrooges."

No, they are not Scrooges. They are acting responsibly by not creating yet another "right" that will be abused by deadbeats.

FAMILIES...an interesting choice of words. I wonder how many (or how few) of them are mom, dad and kids, who were either homeowners or good responsible tenants and who worked instead of collecting public assistance.

I know, Ms. Single Mom and her brood count as a "family", but don't usually function as one. I'd like to see the breakdown.

FEMA does try to get their trailers back when the lease expires.

Just act some of the FEMA guys who have gone to deactivate these trailers only to get physically assaulted by people who don't think they should have to give them up.
