Freep Poll (Is Kwanzaa really celebrated?)
County Press ^

Posted on 12/28/2006 8:11:19 PM PST by Tribune7

Kwanzaa -- the holiday began in 1967 by Marxist Ron Karenga, who would later serve time for felony assault for viciously torturing two women, then become chairman of the black studies department at California State University, Long Beach -- is this week. Do you know anybody who celebrates it?

Yes

No. I think more people celebrate Festivus.

I think it's more often mocked.

Kwanzaa is heavily celebrated by white liberals in the media and on college campuses because they feel guilty about their whiteness.

Celebrated? You bet! I post my Kwanza carol every chance I get:

On the first day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
A Marxist in a red tree.

On the second day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.

On the third day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Three Dixie Chicks.
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.

On the fourth day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Four Lenin busts.
Three Dixie Chicks,
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.

On the fifth day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Five fel-on-ies.
Four Lenin busts,
Three Dixie Chicks,
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.

On the sixth day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Six Castro jumpsuits.
Five fel-on-ies,
Four Lenin busts,
Three Dixie Chicks,
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.

On the seventh day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Seven Mao pajamas,
Six Castro jumpsuits,
Five fel-on-ies,
Four Lenin busts
Three Dixie Chicks,
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.

Festivus, notwithstanding its lack of content, is no less insidious than Kwanzaa - why should anyine celebrate either of them?

You know, if you treat it as a serious question . . . NO. I don't know a soul who celebrates Kwanza.

I know AMEs, Catholics, a number of folks from small independent Full Gospel/Charismatic churches, and one couple who are Episcopalians. But not one Kwanza-ite, if that's the word. Even around Atlanta University where some of the loonier tunes hang out.

It appears to be an entirely media-created phenomenon, with a supporting cast of fringe activists/agitators.

. . . but nobody's serious about Festivus, even at the newspapers.

I think I'll worry about more imminent threats, like Star Trek conventioneers.

I think its something thats being spread by the MSM... IF it wasn't for them we wouldn't know anything about it, nor would we be talking about it... they don't have enough "followers" to actually spread the word.

I "celebrate" the start of Kwanzaa each year with a 40 of 8-ball. I really do!
