"haemoglobinopathies" is another tough word, but essentially it is similar to Sickle Cell Anemia, a painful disease that starves the body of oxygen. Here at the Medical College of Georgia they have come up with a successful treatment of frequent blood transfusions, which is straining supplies.

It sounds horrible. And, the potential for rich Saudis to start purchasing quantities of blood in the third world is an awful thought.
