REFERENCE THREAD: SADDAM HUSSEIN VIDEOS
YouTube and Google | 12-30-06 | DFU

Posted on 12/30/2006 3:35:59 PM PST by doug from upland

Because the videos may be lost on other threads, perhaps this thread can be the reference for posting.

The hanging video is on Google, and there are some scenes from the trial. There may be other important historical video footage that we shouldn't miss. Please bring them here. Thanks.

Sorry to have to respectfully disagree. This is not bloodlust. This thread is for the historical record. Justice was served that was long overdue. He was not tortured. His death was very swift.

Really, people now are no better than the masses who used to come to the town square to watch beheadings, stonings, burnings, evisceration, etc

There's nothing wrong with letting people see the system at work. Public executions serve a valuable purpose which extends far beyond "blood lust." The execution was far more humane than the treatment the Iraqis received from him.

I don't enjoy watching the video, but it's important that Saddam's millions of victims realize that he's really gone for good.

Why would you expect them to be?

And why would being otherwise be "better"?

I completely agree.

I don't enjoy watching the video, but it's important that Saddam's millions of victims realize that he's really gone for good.

I agree also that for the Iraqis who were victimized for so long, watching this would be a sort of catharsis. But I assume you are not one of his millions of victims.

So if you don't enjoy it, why watch it?

Dunno. Just seems more civilized to look the other way. To me there is just something disturbing about the fact that there are people who get a kick out of watching other human beings die, no matter who or what they have done.

Some people need killin, that is obvious. I'm just kind of disappointed that people seek things like this out, just for a thrill. The Nick Berg video is a perfect case in point. Who wants to watch that kind of thing, and for what possible other purpose than a vicarious thrill?

And if you say, "So that we can see the true evil of the enemy we're up against" or some crap like that, I'll bop you on the noggin.

I didn't mean the thread, I meant wanting to watch the video.

I could not agree more.

I think your assumtion that the only reason to watch it is for enjoyment is wrong. People watch for a variety of reasons: curiosity, a look at history, etc.

Well then I won't say anything like that.

I hope we all know the true nature of the enemy already.

Suppose a whacked-out crack head killed a family member of yours
and was caught by police, tried & convicted & summarilly executed.

Good on the system.

Would you prefer to read about it or to witness it?

I know, this does not speak to your point about folks flocking to see an execution, but it provides closure to those harmed.

While folks in Oklahoma or California or Texas may not have been
much harmed by Saddam, lots of other folks were and they have access
to these images, too. Good for them I say.

Well teeny, I watched it because it bears historic significance and I chose to. As disquieting as it is to watch any life come to an abrupt end, this guy richly deserved it.

Executions are never pretty, but they should always be public. Criminals ought to know what awaits them - the deterrent effect is greatly heightened.

I'm sure you'll disagree.

Just wanted to make sure for myself it really happened, and he really was dead.

No re-enactiments in a studio.

The end result of 9/11. The two series of pictoral records ALWAYS shown in tandem, to make the point that actions have consequences.
