He and Lynne were very close to Gerald Ford he/they used to visit him and Betty whenever he was in the area and always attended the Washington dinner for members of the Ford administration. There are many many mentions of Gerald Ford and the VPs time in that administration in many of his speeches.
I believe it was even held this year even though President Ford himself was too ill to attend and I suspect that group will continue to meet as long as they physically can. They all seem to have an unique bond but then as a team they went through a period where they needed to stick together and present a united front for sake of the country they all loved and served so well and have continued to do so in the years since.

LOL -- I found and posted that one earlier and just told snugs, I like that one for my toaster, but I also liked this one too, (shows the flag draped coffin).

At least Mrs. Ford has a chance to rest for two days, right? Then the National Cathedral funeral, and then to Grand Rapids... the last of which I think will be very nostalgic, sad but comforting.

I think you're right. She sure looks frail.

Initially I thought that too but the more I looked at her I felt she is very tired, very emotional and upset and obviously in deep mourning for the man she loved so deeply but although not good on her feet she seemed to stand up to the ordeal much better physically than Nancy Reagan did. I know many will snipe and say she is a stronger character but I feel that where this maybe partially true I think that maybe her health is probably better than initially thought and maybe her main problem is her mobility.
Whatever though it does break your heart to see her suffer but she suffered with such dignity even when she went to the coffin no dramatic gestures but just a women who deeply loved and respected her husband and wanted to pay a public tribute to him.
God bless her, her family and friends and God Bless America.
Gerald R Ford prayers that we see the likes of this man again America needs a Gerald Ford IMHO in 2008.
