Federal district court judges are paid $165,200 ...The issue of pay, says Roberts, "has now reached the level of a constitutional crisis."
There's no reason they should make over 100k, imo. But with all the extra tax revenue from the private property seizures, they could certainly afford a raise...

It's all about outside options. If a decent lawyer can make well over $165,200 being a lawyer, then what incentive does he have to become a judge? If lawyers are financially motivated, then the only lawyers that would become a judge are those who cannot earn $165,200 being a lawyer.
It's not being out of touch with reality. It's asking the question of whether we want our judges to be lawyers who could not make it.
BTW, I have no idea what the payscale is for lawyers. I'm only assuming that good lawyers should easily be able to clear $165,200. Maybe I'm wrong.
I wish WE had $165,000 a year to live on. But we probably never will unless we get the Publisher's Clearing House to knock on our door. I will be content on what we have and live within our means, which might help these poor people to be able to manage their small amount of money (hah!).
These people are out of touch with reality."
Not their reality.
Their reality is they're better than the masses and deserve more.
To be quite honest, while $165k a year is nothing to sneeze at, it doesn't afford the standard of living in the DC area that it does in most of the country. Still quite adequate, but not as high as it sounds. It SHOULD pay enough to encourage private-practice lawyers to be interested in it.
I agree. $165,000 per year is a crisis? Now, I understand they must maintain two residences and their children simply must attend private scool and the best colleges. And what about wifey's wardrobe?
Oh yeah. 165K per year must be a real struggle when you have no concept of how to live within your means.
