That didn't sound to me like they were such great buddies and the press has made it out..
I won't watch. I plan to watch the funeral tomorrow.
Right.
That's what I was thinking.
The Ford children are pure class -- taking time to meet everyday mourners and thank them personally for honoring their father by coming during the public viewing.
And the Vice President's Eulogy was possibly the best public address I have ever heard from him. Very appropriate and very moving.
Well Fidal Castro is my number one draft pick on dictator since Saddam bite the dust
But I think I replace ole Jimmy
I was going for George Bush Sr he too healthy I think ole Dubya dad going have 10 years worth of living before he kick it
That website you listed above is down right now. Wonder what that's about?
Ol' Bill has to pretend like he gives a damn. Thpppt!
if Ron Reagan didn't have a problem dissing President Bush at his father's interment, why would Carter have a problem doing the same at Ford's ???
Probably just temporary. It's not just that particular discussion board, it's the whole YT site.
It's back up now. Hammer 'em hard.
I have no knowledge of Pres. Ford and Pres. Carter's relationship. But what I do know is that the ex-President club is very, very small. Which draws them together more than apart, especially as they age and drop old resentments.
Thanks for posting the link again.
Well, there goes any chance of me even trying to con DH into making the drive to GR!
BUSH
President Bush and first lady Laura Bush briefly paid their respects Monday to Gerald R. Ford
Their stay at the U.S. Capitol lasted just a few minutes.
Bush, who had been vacationing until Monday at his ranch in Crawford, Texas ...
Bush and his wife visited the Capitol on the third day of mourning there for Ford
CLINTON
And former President Clinton and his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, were to visit as well.
BIAS DETECTOR (that would be me) POINTS OUT
Q: Were the Clintons vacationing during the Congressional recess?
A: YES
Q: Does the AP point out how *few* minutes the Clintons hung out at the casket? (How many minutes do they "expect" the mourners to linger, anyway?)
Q: Does the AP mention anything President and Rosalyn Carter: a) being on vacation; b) ignoring the opportunity to pay their respects to President Ford and his grieving family?
Geniune.
I guess I might as well have asked "Does a bear shit in the woods."
:-)
I've read here that each President plans their own funeral while still in office, so I wonder if that means they can alter it after leaving office or not...?
I can't imagine Ford would have even anticipated Carter while he was still President. Or, perhaps the Michigan event is not considered part of the state funeral, but a private event? But, why Carter? How does Mrs. Ford feel about Carter? I just wonder ....
I am glad to see the others here as impressed with Cheney's eulogy as I was.
Today, Betty Ford re-visited her husband's casket in the Rotunda with her children circled behind her for another quiet good-bye to her dear husband.
Clearly the plans can be altered because the motorcade stopped at the World War II Memorial, which was not built until recently. No doubt the family was consulted on the plans to see if they wanted to add or remove any of the previous plans.
