When I first heard this change being announced, I thought they would keep some of the popular radio talk shows like Laura Ingraham and Michael Medved and have Christian talk most of the rest of the time. However, WKAT radio has just committed ratings suicide by having Christian Talk 24/7. I just checked their schedule and Ingraham and Medved are OUT.

Hey, I have no problem with Christian talk but did they have to throw out the baby with the bathwater? Ingraham and Medved are terrific and I listened to them all the time. By cancelling those two shows they are also cancelling out a lot of listeners including me.

Okay, so does anybody know when and where Laura Ingraham and Michael Medved will be reappearing in South Florida? Oh, and I hope the WKAT program manager is FIRED for his dopey programming of shutting these two out.

No, this is the cornerstone of Salem's Programming. And it's money maker. Dobson et al pay Salem big bucks to air on the Salem teaching stations.

In the radio business, the type of programming that the staiton is switching to is known as "pay to pray".

They can commit rating suicide, but the fact is that each of those ministries pays money to broadcast so the revenue is guaranteed with each show. They probably were not drawing enough advertising revenue so they switched formats. Either that or the station owner decided that he would prefer ministries to politics.

If Medved and Ingraham are high rating shows they will be picked up by competing stations. In the meantime, just listen to them on the internet.

Same thing happened up here in JAX w/ WJGR.

They used to have on Bennett, Laura, Prager, Medved, Hewitt, Galgher.

Now it's nothing but Religious Programming local talk show hosts that can't pull in the same caliber as the big guys/gals.

They went way left too. One local guy, Andy Johnson, is a flaming lib (even though he says he's "fair") Hell they got one guy on there that's a socialist once a week.

I don't much listen anymore.

I'm not sure, it looks to be a good lineup to me. Calvary Satellite Network International has many radio stations across the US that have mainly Christian talk shows on each day, and they seem to be doing okay. I'm sure the parent company did some good research on this before they announced the switch. Time will tell.

Salem Communications has owned & operated Christian radio stations for decades. The change isn't so surprising.

Hm...

Here in Phx we have a Christian radio station that seems to do pretty good - but we also have a conservative talk station that has most of the popular shows on it. I hope you can find your Laura and Michael - there is always XM radio if nothing else fails.

Laura Ingraham is Catholic. Everyone knows that Catholics aren't real Christians.

And Medved is ...gasp!...Jewish!

We can't have none o' that around here!

(NOTE: The preceeding statements are sarcasm and not intended to be taken seriously.)

PJ, I am late again. I was going to point you to AmishDude's über-cool profile page (you know, him being Amish and all), but I guess I'm late to the party.

OTOH, Laura is now available here on Milwaukee radio! The bad news? Her show is on at 2am - 5am.

Don't worry about Laura Ingraham. She'll return somewhere on the dial. She's got the top-ranked national show in her time slot. They dumped her from early evenings on KSFO (San Francisco) for Mark Levin because he is syndicated by ABC (like Rush and Hannity) and ABC owns KSFO, and a couple of weeks later, KNEW (where Savage moved when KSFO carried all three hours of Hannity) snatched her up, dumping Glenn Beck (unfortunately, he can't be heard in S.F. Thank goodness for Headline News).

Savage and Ingraham are still heard on WFTL 850, in the Fort Lauderdale/Palm Beach area.

For more about the WKAT switch, see Radio News:
http://RadioPages.net/radio/2007newyear.html

I also think it was a dumb move. I can't begin to count how many Christian stations are already in the market.

If they can't do conservative talk profitably, they should revert back to the previous format on WKAT: classical music.

Buying a station in this "blue" market was foolish for a company like Salem. I betcha that bumpkin Tancredo would agree!!!! ;-)
