I didn't mean to insult. I am sure you are aware of Iraq's proximity to Iran. I was just pointing out that, in addition to Iraq & Afghanistan, the presence of U.S. troops in other neighboring countries means that Iran is now virtually surrounded - not an enviable situation. The map shows this very well.

I have just always believed - or maybe "hoped" is a better word - that Iran has always been the bigger fish in this pond (or cesspool as the case may be). I believe Bush knows what likely has to be done, but I have serious doubts as to whether the county's will is there - at least as it applies to about 50% of the population, anyway.

Thanks for clearing that up. Some Freepers just love to go around insulting people for the sheer joy of it.

I think that is what is bothering me. I have been a strong supporter of the war, but with the country being so short sighted and easily lead astray, I just wonder if Bush is going to have the political capital to do anything more than try to finish up Iraq and get out. (Shades of Vietnam- I always thought the left had the greater responsibility for how that war was fought, and then complained about it!)

I have been reading Victor Davis Hanson's book "Carnage and Culture", where the "freedom culture" wins over the "tyrannical culture". But only when the leadership and the population are behind it. I really wish Bush had taken on the media all these years instead of letting them have their way in misinforming our nation. This war needs to be fought at home as well, but obviously in a different way, but still fought none the less.
