There are four victims of District Attorney Mike Nifongs twisted tactics in the Duke Lacrosse case.
The first three, of course, are the young men who never would have been charged with anything had Nifong adhered to the standard practices in his own office. With luck, they will ultimately be exonerated, and be able to move on with their lives, albeit after having endured a chapter in hell.
The fourth victim is unlikely to be so lucky; she will not be exonerated at trial, and she will not be able to move on with her life. She will be destroyed by this case, and while she is partly to blame for that herself, the other part of the blame rests squarely on Mike Nifongs shoulders.
The woman is a liar. That is the English translation of the latest round of maneuvers, in which the prosecution dismissed the rape charges because the woman could no longer say, as she once did, that she had intercourse with three men at the party. In other words, she lied when she said she did.
The challenge for defense attorneys, in dealing with a woman who cant remember whether she had intercourse with three men on a day when she must have had it with two others (to judge from the DNA on her body and underwear), is not to hit so hard that you provoke sympathy.
If she cant remember now, how come she was so sure then?

Refreshing bluntness.
There's a phrase you don't see much on FR...
But that doesn't make her a "victim," as Estrich says it does. And if she finds that she's been destroyed by this case and that she'll never be able to "move on", well, she should have thought about that before she decided to try to ruin three men's lives by falsely accusing them of rape.
That is because it is difficult to associate Susan Estrich with any kind of nailing.
Susan, try that again. FIVE (5) OTHER men's DNA. You know what they call someone like that? A stupid hooker with a death wish!
Thank God Estrich is the nailer, and not the nailee.
""But that doesn't make her a "victim," as Estrich says it does. And if she finds that she's been destroyed by this case""
I think she was a victim of sorts. She was an intoxicated hooker and made up some dumb story so she would spend the night in a hospital rather than the drunk tank. After the first statement of her dancing partner law enforcement should have stopped right there. They didn't, they pushed to manufacture a crime.
I think it stretches the definition of "victim" to include someone who purposely and with malice smears someone with one of the worst things you can say about a man.
She is not a victim.
She's evil.
I was surprised to learn that Susan Estrich was herself a victim of rape. I am sure this is near and dear to her heart, and I applaud her in this instance.
Confucious say: "Even blind squirrel find occasional nut"
Not even with Clinton?
Not!
while she is partly to blame for that herself
This woman should be outed as to what she really is, a whore and more!
Her argument doesn't let this hooker off the hook. But it does certainly add one more reason for condemning Nifong. He didn't do it for her or the community, he did it for himself--purely to get elected.
I take exception about her remark concerning Nifong's comments to the press. With the presumption that the accused is innocent until proven guilty, a DA has no business talking the way he did, stirring up resentments and hatreds in the community.
Yet another victim was the Duke Lacrosse team. They were an excellent team, young men who worked hard to get where they are. And they got screwed because Nifong was a liar and the president of the university is a coward.
Black-white and town-gown relations suffered, too. All so this cowardly liar could get himself re-elected to a job he was never fit to hold.
Chapter in Hell, North Carolina
Just exactly who did Mike Nifong think he was doing a favor by pushing forward a case with an alleged victim who, the minute she spoke, would inevitably be massacred as a lying slut?
Her? Her family? Her community? So that later there would be pressure to charge her for lying? Did he really think he was doing her any favors?
Nifong should have been looking at both crimes--rape and false accusation of rape. It's not the prosecutors job to do anyone "favors"; it's his job to prosecute crime regardless of the criminal or his/her crime.
There's a reason Justice wears a blindfold, Suzie.
Nifong has acted no differently than Fitzgerald in the Libby case and Earle in the Delay case. All three have committed severe ethical violations. All three are liars and should be disbarred. All three are democrats. I do not hear Esterich slamming Earle or Fitzgerald because it helped her party politically. Esterich is a scumbag political hack dirtbag that has no moral balance.
Me too. Very surprised.
It's a little late to make that announcement - LOL!
