Bush pushes for spending control
CNN ^ | Janu8ary 3, 2007

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush on Wednesday asked the Democratic-controlled Congress to give the White House line-item veto power to control spending.

As he prepares to deal with an opposition Congress for the first time, Bush is also asking lawmakers to extend tax cuts.

Bush made the requests in a Rose Garden statement and in an opinion column published in Wednesday's Wall Street Journal.

The line-item veto would allow the president to cut specific spending from legislation without vetoing the entire bill.

In the opinion piece, Bush warned that the Democrat-controlled Congress risks stalemate if it resorts to "politics as usual" and tries to "pass bills that are simply political statements."

There you go Projecting again! Hypothesizing future events and forming opinions based on possible outcomes is not a mentally healthy practice.

Given it's based on his past performance, it's not hard to see through his latest stunt.

Those numbers traditionally reflect periodical fluctuations only. Costs across the board, like Oil prices, construction, private sector service increases, make the cost of operating a government higher. Perhaps you have seen some of it yourself in your personal life as well.

So your so called proof is empty as well a lacking vision on your part.

Yeah, Congress can't give away its own powers.

In view of its supine response to the Dear Leader's enthusiasm for undeclared war and systematic recourse to signing statements, I'd say your statement is true in the same sense that a victim of armed robbery "can't give away" his wallet to the perp who's already decided to help himself.

It's easy to rationalize away hard numbers using anecdotal hand waving, but that doesn't make it right. Even accounting for inflation, the numbers don't add up to what you consider 'decreasing'. Lacking vision is just weasel wording for "I don't like what you're showing me."

It might be a bit more credible had he given a sh!t about it when his own party was in power.

Is it less expensive to fund medication that prevents hospitalization or not, and then fund the hospital stay? The total cost of the prescription drugs that are funded by the feds need to be weighed against the cost of hospital stays that are prevented.

The Medicare prescription drug bill increased the unfunded liability by about $35 TRILLION.

You sound like my wife trying to explain how much she saved us shopping during a sale. As I tell her when the bills show up,

"We can't afford to save any more money this way!"

Wow, indeed. Too bad the taxpayers didn't have line-item veto when Bush funded the NEH, CPB, and agriwelfare.

This tactic is used to make the dim's look bad..."See, see, the democrats are big spenders", what our weak kneed Republicans try to use but they just don't get it, they had their chance and they wimped out and they were kicked out of office for it.

Grow some brass ones or you will never be the majority again.

No, considering that he did absolutely nothing about it when he had Republican majorities in both houses it's appropriate to doubt his sincerity

He didn't have a super majority in the Senate .. which is what the Dems used against us in many cases

Try learning the rules and procedure's of Congress

So you don't really have anything?

No .. I suggested that you watch and learn how congress really works because no matter what I say .. you'll say I'm wrong

There are ways to get around things .. but first you have to be willing to jump on board instead of complaining as the train passes you by

Since when is it the govt's responsibility to do such things? Ur copy of the Constitution have that "pay for medical care" part in it?

It never has been but since 1966 and the medicare act went into effect we the people are in the health care business. That being the case, let's at least find the most efficient way to do it.

****Either he's playing some super transdimensional poker game against the Democrats, with 9 aces hidden up some space-time nooks and crannies, or he's losing it.****

I think Dubya watched the same TV program I did last night on the Science Channel. It was about Cosmology / Physics and the new 'M' (membrane) theory.

This theory 'solves' everything, including the Big Bang and the 'unsolvable' event horizon. With this theory we have .. ready .. Eleven Dimensions and unlimited alternate Universes - some of which we are in, some you are but I'm not, some are empty, and some of which where Al Gore is POTUS (honest). So maybe 'this cut spending' Dubya is coming from one of these Alternate Universes.

'Our' Dubya prolly fell into a worm hole in a Membrane and is now on Planet X-987 asking for amnesty laws for illegals from planet X-988.

It's the only logical answer.

How you make your case shouldn't be determined by what I say.

Why do I need to get on board a corrupt political process? Corrupt political processes corrupt. Please give a few examples of corrupt political processes that have been cleansed from the inside.

Why do I need to get on board a corrupt political process?

Then don't do anything to try and fix it .. just keep on complaining while the train passes you by

The Medicare prescription drug bill increased the unfunded liability by about $35 TRILLION.

You, like your invented number, are full of bullship. It's no wonder you can't understand how your wife can save money by spending it. 35 TRILLION over what time period, the next 1,000 years.

He didn't have a super majority in the Senate .. which is what the Dems used against us in many cases.

So he didn't even bother trying, is that what you're saying? A majority in both houses and he never once tried to influence the GOP to cut spending or balance the budget. Now we're supposed to believe that he's suddenly serious about it? You might want to go chase that turnip truck you just fell off of.

Try learning the rules and procedure's of Congress.

Oh I'll stack my understanding up against your's anytime.
