Too many define manhood through violence
What makes someone spray a limousine with bullets even though he has no idea who might die? A "gun culture," answers The Denver Post, under the headline "Williams' murder a cowardly gun crime." Suffice it to say that the murder of Darrent Williams would not have occurred, at least in the fashion it did, without a gun. But that fact in itself explains little. What is most horrifying about this crime was the killer's casual targeting of people he hardly knew or didn't know at all over what perhaps was a disagreement or a perceived slight - an example of "disrespect" that had to be avenged.
It may be "culture" at the bottom of this tragedy, all right - gangster culture. Criminal culture. Culture in which lethal violence is considered the accepted if not the anticipated response to, for example, a heated argument.

Ask the Dems... it must be Bush's fault.

But to the left, where all cultures are equal no matter what they do or the values they hold, it's so much easier to just blame the gun.
This will only serve to further punish the law abiding citizens of Denver with yet more ridiculous gun control laws.
It is not what is in the hand that matters. It is what is in your heart. The question is what is there about our culture that turns our children into murderers?
It's not they have no idea, but that they don't care. That's the problem.
He should have known how to fly.
Oh wait I thought this was about John Denver.
There. Fixed it.
A very excellent editorial.
Are you drinking JD in water? /s
the Tahoe is registered the 27-year-old Brian Hicks, a self-professed gang member.
Hicks is currently in jail on unrelated attempted murder and drug charges. Hicks made local headlines roughly a month ago when the key witness in his attempted murder trial was gunned down in front of her home.

....those damn guns.....
You bet, those guns did it again, of course its not the idiot that has ILLEGALLY gotten one now is it?
And also, perhaps, the MSM's casual recital of lofty speculation before the facts are in.
A person with Williams at the club was said to be dressed all in red, a color commonly associated with the Bloods gang.
Sources tell 9NEWS that while at the nightclub, that person was in an altercation with other club-goers dressed in all blue, a color commonly associated with the Crips gang.
Hours later, the limo was sprayed with bullets near 11th and Speer Blvd.
Police say the manner in which the bullets were sprayed were typical of an intentional act to hurt someone, as they were shot roughly at head level.
I can imagine, having lived in Denver for 15 years, that the gangs are still at it....but its not the GUNS that are the problem, its the PEOPLE who have the guns that are the problem.
You cannot stop ILLEGALLY owned weapons, I don't care how many laws you have...its no different than drugs...but for our MSM idiots to keep pounding day after day about the guns, is as childish as staying the "SUV" killed someone....these are ITEMS, its the HUMANS behind the ITEMS that are the problem.....
We agree.
The gangs are growing. The problem is not the guns. The problem is the criminals.
Apparently that club is a gang club.
The police get called there alot.
Saw this on a bumpersticker yesterday (probably NRA):
"If guns kill people then pencils misspell words."
I despise the intellectual dishonesty of the gun-grabbers. In the hands of a thug, anything and everything is dangerous, from a brick to a Beretta. But what is most dangerous is a grown human being without any moral restraint on his or her behavior. And what I never hear from the likes of the Denver Post is support for those institutions that train the hearts of men.
The source? Ft Worth is Crips country cuz. Crips and Bloods don't dig each other see. Straight up.
Goodnight funny man.
The vic was from Ft. Worth.
We insist on the right to kill our unborn babies in our womb. We insist that it's compassion to kill our elderly infirm, and in Princeton we have a professor who thinks that it's a good idea to kill handicapped babies up until 30 days after their birth.
We show disrespect to all our institutions, CSPIN thinks it's nice to put raving madmen on their air, calling for the death of our President, etc.
Keith Olberwomann rants day in and day out about how much he HATES..........ditto Matthews........to say nothing of Wolfe Blitzed side kick, Cafferty.
Respect is a dirty word in America.
There, settled the question!
She has also been in that club for a private party.
There are evil evil people in this world and until we stop looking for 'root causes' and 'excuses' we will continue on down the road to destruction.
Good explication of a major part of the problem.
I agree with all your points, but have a quibble/addendum to this statement. We DO show disrespect to all our institutions, but all our institutions have been compromised and are on the way to being destroyed as the institutions they were intended to be. Examples are education, the mainline Church, the MSM, law enforcement, and, especially, the federal government. IMO, they deserve not only our disrespect, but our contempt.
(Jerry) Pournelle's Iron Law of Bureaucracy states that in any bureaucratic organization there will be two kinds of people: those who work to further the actual goals of the organization, and those who work for the organization itself. The Iron Law states that in all cases, the second type of person will always gain control of the organization, and will always write the rules under which the organization functions.
Bingo!
The institutions that train the hears of men is what the left most despises and degenerates when ever it gets the chance. It is almost as if they want this nation to fall into a never ending spiral of violence and chaos.
All because they hate God, Christians and morals.
--exactly--it's why it's over, folks--we are past the point of no return---headed over the precipice--
Similar in MO to a Muslim honor killing.
Good post. Vince Carroll wrote an excellent rejoinder to the Post's gun control nonsense.
-thanks-do you have a link?--
I was referring to this editorial - Vince is the editor of the editorial page and generally writes all the major editorials. This looked like his style to me, so I assume it's him.
Here in southern Nevada, it's not hard to tell when Vin Suprynowicz writes the Review-Journal lead editorial--
