Report: 5,000 Iran agents behind Shi'ite death squads in Iraq

WASHINGTON — Iran maintains thousands of intelligence agents in Iraq, according to Saudi security sources. A report on Iran's intelligence presence in Iraq by the Saudi National Security Assessment Project asserts that Iran has at least 5,000 agents, responsible for helping establish Shi'ite death squads. Al Quds "has a close relationship with the Badr Organization and the Mahdi Army, as well as with smaller Iraqi Shi'ite militias," the report said. "Members of the Al Quds Forces organized what came to be known as the death squads under the former Iraqi Interior Minister."

One has to consider the source, but the reporting is consistent with other sites. The magnitude of the Iranian effort is newsworthy. Though paid ($80, and a subsidiary of the International Herald Tribune, an egregious bed-wetter, Geostrategy Direct does a pretty good job of breaking stories. Another story reports the U.S. Special Ops Command has been tasked to focus on China, Iran & North Korea. Our Chicom "friends" are thanking us for their $200 trade surplus (they've built $1T in hard currency reserves) by proliferating four days to Sunday. Among other affronts, they're building a Nimitz-caliber super-carrier to challenge the U.S. Navy.

Subscription price is $8, not $80.

If it's just eight bucks (a tiny fraction of the $200 Chinese trade surplus) somebody, other than myself, should pay them and post the rest of the article. Due to Festivus spending my credit is a bit overextended right now.

The trade surplus is $200B. I can't post full-text due to coppyright laws. If you're not interested, don't post a reply.

We need to tackle Iran, but I'd look at the Saudis closely. You know they've got private support for Sunni insurgents and Al Qaeda still, if not unofficial government support.

Kind of makes you wonder just what it was we did get in that raid last week, doesn't it? This one will bear watching.

If the U.S. ended its dependence on oil, Saudi Arabia would be irrelevant. As of December, the U.S. had spent $379B in Iraq. According to today's Wall Street Journal, President Bush will ask for $146B in FY2008 -- a 46% increase. If we had spent a half-trillion on technology, the Middle East would be well on its way to returning to the obscurity it so richly deserves.

I am awed and humbled by your witty retort. Please spare me the further humiliation I will suffer if you continue to use your obviously superior intellect to admonish me.
