President George W. Bush is poised to stake every US resource to hand on a no-holds-barred military operation all the way to victory in Iraq, after first bringing Baghdad under control. The chips should all be lined up by the time he goes public next week on his new strategy for Iraq and the Middle East at large.
DEBKAfiles military and Washington sources report that the new Bush policy will brook no look-in for Iran, Syria or Hizballah in Iraqs affairs. Exceptionally offensive US military resources have been marshaled to bar any interference with the White Houses plans for Iraq. They will under the hand of the military command for instantaneous responses. To this end, the shakeup of military leaders the US president set in motion over the weekend moves into forward position one of the toughest and most hawkish US military leaders.
Adm. William J. Fallon (picture), 62, hitherto supreme commander in the Pacific theater, takes over from Gen. John Abizaid as commander of the US central command which is in charge of the US fronts in Iraq, Afghanistan and against global terrorism. The admiral specializes in deploying large-scale navy, air and Marines forces simultaneously in different arenas.
And the White House is making sure that Adm. Fallon has plenty of resources to deploy, a veritable buildup, the second in four months, in the Persian Gulf and other waters opposite Iran. The USS John C. Stennis strike group is heading for the Persian Gulf with a mighty air arm of 9-10 fighter-bomber squadrons. Saturday, some sources reported that another task force, the USS Ronald Reagan Strike Group, had been ordered out of Sand Diego on Jan. 4 and was heading in the same direction.

Did D-E-B-K-A get this from Al Jazerra?
"Using his powers as commander in chief, he continues to bolster the Iraqi front with another key appointment: Lt. Gen. David Petraeus will succeed Gen. George Casey in command of American forces in Iraq. Petraeus commanded the 101st Airborne, the Screaming Eagles, in the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Its motto, Rendezvous with Destiny, fits the US presidents present frame of mind."
"The appointment of Ryan Crocker to replace Zamay Khalilzad as US ambassador to Baghdad further supplements the all-or-nothing scenario. Crocker led the US campaign in the Indian subcontinent against al Qaeda and Taliban. Khalilzad moves over to head the US mission at the United Nations."
About time. I'm still waiting to be shocked and awed.
President Bush can try all he wants, but unless the Iraqis want it...
DEBKA's releases are usually in decent English... this reads like some dude named Ahmad wrote the piece.
Would be good, if true - but this is debka, so true it is not. The whole region should have been carpet-nuked long ago.
Hope this true. If so, thanks DEBKA.
Remember people, don't try to cheat and skip to the last part. And no MSM cliff notes this time OK... :)
I think I see the fake but accurate sticker down in the lower right corner :)
I was listening to Larry Kudlow today, and he really nailed it. What he said is it can go both ways: If we keep going the way we are, the Dimorats are going to absolutely destroy the Repubs in `08. On the other hand, if we start having some victories, stablize the region, it will be the other way around in `08.. the Repubs are going to absolutely destroy the Dunce-o-rats because the Ding-a-ling-o-rats (gee, how many names can I use for Democrat here?) are going to look like the biggest back stabbing surrender monkeys on the planet, in other words, all those undecided will see the truth.
It is so so so so so so damn effin` important we succeed over there, not only to stem the spread of terror, but to stem the spread of liberalism. We keep failing over there, no progress is made, Hellary will be our next POTUS! And we think Pelosi is bad now? ho ho ho. Imagine Pelosi and Hellary as POTUS!
Well, IF true (and DEBKA is a pretty dubious source) it is about time we release our hounds of war and let them do what they are trained to do.
Good luck to the President, because the Democrats are going to fight him all the way.
Thanks.
Extreme, but hey, it worked with Japan and the Japanese in my opinion made the Islamic terrorists look like Teddy Bears by comparison. More suicide by plane episodes, more beheadings, more torture, more bombings, and more fanatical followers of a religion, which was the Emperor back then. A couple well placed nukes and look at them today; They all bow.
People say it`s not the same because the Islamic terrorists have no country. Yes they do. It`s called Mecca, their holiest of sites, the head of the snake. Either they stop of the head goes.
. . . what makes you think the Iraqis don't want it -- the MSM?!
It's 1863 and Lincoln just picked Grant to lead the Union Army.
The closer we get to victory the LOUDER the libs, rinos, demorats, media, and the enemy will SCREAM... get ready... watch it all go up in smoke, Semper Fi....next chapter being written...
