Does every thread have to instantly degenerate into some sort of open mic night at the local dive bar? Not every story is an opportunity to crack open the lame joke book you got for Christmas, folks.

And here we have the definition of 'stick in the mud'.

Seems that way. I sometimes wish we had an "ignore user" on the board.

Just don't forget to tip the waitresses, they are single moms working through college, you know.

Oh, sorry. Wrong bar.

Thank you. Free Republic is so predictable. And everyone believes they're sooooo original.

Thank you. It shows the maturity of folks who try to make funny remarks on threads reporting disasters (or in this case an unknown that could become a disaster). Could you imagine being the idiot that mentioned King Kong in the opening posts of a live 9/11 thread?

My experience is that forums like this start out very well, but over time devolve into this type of childish arena of one-upmanship and such. It is too bad, because this used to be a great site, with great, but appropriate, humor. After all, Sore Looserman came from here. But today, much of what you see is "it's Bush's fault" or juvenile name calling.

Alas, I still love what's left of the old culture.
