HELP WANTED: RIGHTY FOR '08(Dick Cheney...maybe?)
NEW YORK POST ^ | January 8, 2007 | DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANN

Posted on 01/08/2007 7:16:07 AM PST by kellynla

IT'S getting to the point where the conservative - dominant - wing of the Republican Party needs to take out a want ad in the newspaper or post a listing on Craigslist.com to find a candidate for president. In the field taking shape before our eyes, none of the top four contenders is likely to satisfy their delicate palates - made more arrogant and discerning by decades of victories.

Rudy Guiliani? Pro-choice, pro-affirmative action, pro-gay rights, pro-immigration, pro-gun control Rudy? Righties will vote for him only if they have lobotomies first. Remember how the New York City Council prohibited the Boy Scouts from meeting on city property because they wouldn't let in gay scoutmasters? Rudy let it happen.

Yes. There is a war going on and of course Rudy Guiliani is the man we should have had all along running Homeland Security. Obviously, he is the candidate Osama would least like to see in the White House. But has the religious right so abandoned its draconian agenda that it is willing to elect its ideological opposite president? Don't bet on it.

Sen. John McCain? The McCain of the Kennedy-McCain bill to let illegal immigrants become citizens? Of the "anti-torture" bill to handcuff our agents when they question terrorists? Of the McCain-Feingold campaign-finance bill that the right wing hates? Of the Lieberman-McCain anti-global-warming bill that addresses a problem the right doesn't believe in? That John McCain for president? The right wing can't tolerate his apostasy even if he is the pro-life candidate that Rudy isn't.

I know, I know...Cheney has repeatedly said he's not running but people do change their minds. And I don't see anyone else out there better qualified...do you?

He would be the logical person to run. He has said he will not, that is why the VP should have been the up and coming GOP candidate for this time around...

Don't waste the time or $$ on the V.P. Much as I like him, he has said he has no wish to do the job, nor do I think he is physically able to handle the job.

Keep looking.

I hope you are wrong about him running. I would vote, support and work for any Republican except Cheney.

I disagree with the hatchet job the media has done on the President no one connected with this administration IMHO stands a chance of election in 2008.

They would have to do a complete 180 and denounce everything they supported during their time in the Bush administration before even running and that alone would make them not electable.

Furthermore I do not see Dick Cheney running he has said he is not and I take that at face value and he most certainly would not do a complete 180 on issues and policies a lot of which are promoted by him publicly and privately.

Basically, the idea that as long as GOP candidate is pro-life and anti-gay marriage, it's perfectly fine to be a limp-wristed, illegal-pandering socialist otherwise.

There is a contingent in the GOP that thinks that way. I call them the "Christian Socialists." They might be pro-moral values but that doesn't make them conservative. Conservatism requires more than that.

The problem isn't with delicate conservative tastes -- it's that the "stupid party" lets the liberal press vet all of their potential candidates and will not go with anyone the MSM doesn't, at some level, approve. Newt Gingrich would be the best candidate around for conservatives, for example, but will never get stupid party support because the left-wing press is afraid of, and therefore demonizes, him.

They don't call the Republican Party the "stupid party" without justification.

Every Cheney news report would begin with his gay pregnant daughter. The Veep couldn't survive it.
