A couple of prominent 3rd party candidates often discussed on FR were Pat Buchanan (0.5%) and Harry Browne.
They both wound up opposing most of the War on Terror, turned out to Blame America First.
But they got a lot of coverage on FR, where so called principles trump pragmatism.

I believe an America first 3rd party candidate got around 25% of the vote in '92. All of these people who are sooooo afraid of Hitlery are pathetic. Her charming, charismatic, political genius husband never got over 49% of the vote. There is NO WAY that the unlikable, communist ice queen can win unless we nominate a big government globalist which in turn creates a conservative border hawk 3rd party candidate.
